Locating a Log Book

I have been trying to trace some details of WW2 Spitfire pilot D.H (Don) Shorland (R.A.F. Service number 1315721) for some of his distant relatives who live in Australia. It seems that his log book was sold by London Auction House Dix Noonan Webb of 16 Bolton St, Mayfair, on 22 September 2000, but the auctioneers no longer have records going back that far.
The family is keen to make contact with the purchaser to find details of his career in the R.A.F.
Any leads greatly appreciated.

Check it out at the RAF museum in London. It may have come into their hands.

If you have his Service number - as you do - you have a fair chance of finding out on which Squadrons he served and when.

Armed with that information, the Forms 541 (probably in TNA)of the Squadrons have the flight details which go into log books. Not as good as the log book by far - and much more labour intensive - but could get you lots of information.

D.H. Sunderland

He flew with 130 Squadron (February 1943 - November 1943) and 548 Squadron (late 1944).
