What is it?
Does anyone have any idea what this box is? It is almost certainly aviation related but I cannot find anything about it anywhere. There is no makers name on it apart from the small meter in the middle which is GEC.

Controller for a Radio Compass System ARI 5428.
Two types around - those from RAF aircraft circa 1950/60 flying A/N beam and an internally modified version for the Link D4.

I sent the piccie to an amateur radio friend, and his response was:
'Its control unit for a loop antenna on a possibly a Lancaster or similar. For radio direction finding of a beacon.'
From what XH175 says, my friend was along the right lines but a little too early.

The 5428 was in use by the RAF in 1950, though can't find anything to suggest what type aircraft it may have been fitted to. Certainly not Lancaster, as it was a post war piece of equipment. Possibly it was standard fit to RAF aircraft in production at the time. Here is its predecessor, which came to market in 1947.

First post folks, Hi there from Worcester UK.
Interesting box that, Section Ref 6L suggests may be Link Trainer related, and that ARI.5428 pops up in a list of equipment required to be installed in the Victor, early 50s. Could that particular Control Unit be from a Victor sim I wonder? Nice clean condition, and exposed, loomed cable bundle rather than the usual type of in-service couplings / cable? Just a thought!
