New book at 54Burg.

Ordered an updated copy of The Dambuster s Raid by Sweetman from the Big River site. Ordered it October 28, in my mailbox from Blighty on October 30. Just started it, and it looks to be a very interesting read.

He makes the point that when a raid on the Moehne Dam was suggested in 1937, the RAF's heavy bomber was the Handley-Page Heyford.

Lest we forget....... a 149 Sqdn Heyford that was "a bit late on the round-out" at Mildenhall one fine day in 1938, or possibly up to March 1939.

Couldn't resist! Now, back to the new book, which sounds fascinating.

Have I mentioned our gite client, who when told about the 70th Anniversary programmes on TV earlier in the year, recounted that one night as a 4 year old he had heard planes overhead, and then explosions. In the morning he had gone down to the lake, and went home to tell us mother that "someone had pulled out the plug in the Edersee"!

That's amazing. What an interesting take on such a historical event, seeing it through the eyes of a child.
