BAC 1-11 50th Anniversary - Last chance to fly on a 1-11

Dear All

Ian Allan Aviation Tours and Classic Jet Tours are in the process of finalising details before releasing their itineraries and booking options for this historic event. I can confirm that four 30 minute flights are going to be booked with Business Jet access for the event at Dallas Love Field on Sunday 20th October 2013. This will be one of the big highlights of the BAC 1-11s 50th anniversary taking place this year.

Various packages will be available through Ian Allan Aviation Tours or you can put your own itinerary together / travel independently and book the 1-11 flight directly through Classic Air Tours.

Each 30 minute flight taken as a stand alone option will be in the region of $240 to $260 or $450 to $500 for two flights. This is subject to confirmation from Ian Allan Aviation Tours and Classic jet Tours.

You can book anything from one to four flights if you so wish! It will be an "all day" event with a buffet and drinks laid on.

This promises to be a fantastic climax to the 1-11s 50th anniversary and it's entire history as this will almost certainly be the very last chance to "EVER" fly on a 1-11.

Please spread the word about this very special event.

You can see details about a very similar day out that took place at Dallas Love Field on N999BW in August 2011 on my BAC 1-11 website.

Did I not see on BBC South this very evening, that the very last flyable 1-11 had flown from Boscombe Down today to its final resting place at an aviation museum in Newquay, Cornwall?

Or have the BBC got its facts wrong (again!).

Have also just seen another thread below this one, saying the same thing.

That was the last 1-11 still flying in the UK. There are a handful (five I believe) still flying in the US.

Reading between the lines do BJA plan cease their 1-11 operation pretty soon after this event? I know they have been trying to off load the a/c for some while with no success, so it looks like is sadly not part of their core business any more.

After seeing the South Today lunchtime version of the report I emailed their Transport Correspondent, with a link to this thread, who replied indicating the QinetiQ & RAF believed that there may be other 1-11s in existence but casting doubt as to their airworthiness. Believe that this resulted in the "last ever" indication on the report.

Unfortunately BBC decided not to update the report in the evening bulletin.

Historic last 1-11 flights cancelled!

Business Jet Access have just announced that their BAC 1-11 N999BW won't be available for the historic flights in October! Therefore it is with great regret that I have been forced to cancel the planned 30 minute flights due to have taken place at Dallas Love Field on Sunday 20th October. I can confirm that I am not looking at any alternative dates in the future as it does appear that the aircraft will not fly again! The statement made by the company stated that the aircraft has been withdrawn from service for a "long period of time" pending the supply of spare parts which is becoming a major issue for the 1-11. It therefore sounds like they are about to make the decision to permanently withdraw the aircraft from service although they've not actually confirmed it just yet.. I apologise to those of you that have shown an interest in booking seats on one of these flights.

I'm surprised you haven't been approached by a man who knows where to source a One-Eleven with an overwhelming majority of components fully airworthy.

Bet he'd do the trips for $250, or $199 if paid in cash a month before the event to "Nigeria Plain Tours, c/o the taxi stand, Lagos airport".

p.s. I flew thousands of miles in YD, so won't need to apply.
