Cowick Hall airstrip - anyone remember it?
Hi All,
Perhaps only those who live in the Goole area, North Humberside will remember..
There used to be an airstrip at Cowick Hall (run by Croda International). It didn't last long and is now used as agricultural land.
the question is, does anyone out there have any photos of aeroplanes at Cowick Hall when it was active???
Did anyone fly into there?
I understand that they flew Cessna 336 (prob the wrong number but it is the push pull combo) out of there. There were two aircraft but that is as far as I have been able to get...
Can anyone help?
Thanx in advance!!!!

A Cessna 414 or similar rings a very faint bell...

Hi
I know that the registration of one of them was G-ASKS..(I just checked - it was a 336 and was sadly destroyed in 1996 - a fatal crash into a hillside on the Isle of Man)
The other aircraft was G-ARMJ a cessna 185 (registration cancelled in the early 80s)
Don't have any pics of them at Cowick though..

I recall Cowick Hall being operational around 1975 or so. G-ASKS was a frequent visitor then to the Isle of Man at that time but it faded from the scene - maybe when Cowick Hall closed? It turned up many years later, mainly flying in and out of Andreas. It was on a flight from Andreas to Ronaldsway in broken cloud cover when it disappeared.

I seem to remember a flight test of a robertson stol 337 in pilot magazine about 120 years ago.
it mentioned cowick hall, and claimed an amazing improvement in t/off, and landing performance.as you will know the 336 was the fixed gear version that became the 337 (same engines) (210 continentals)
the sequal to this, was many years later when we were looking for a twin to operate from a short grass strip with trees at one end.
i remembered the article, and tried one out (it worked a treat, and could get in and out with a full load)
With a coupls of lyc 0540,s it would have been awesome.

Just out of interest, when browsing the Aerojumble stalls at Popham yesterday, I bought the aircraft Log Book for Cessna 185 G-ARMJ covering the period it was based at Cowick Hall in 1969.
Explored the area when I was stationed at Lindholme in '73. There were two or three runways visible and they all looked short, about 600m at a guess. I think it was in the Pooley Guide that year otherwise I wouldn't have known it was there.
Some bastard's built a motorway since my visit, but I remember there were trees liberally scattered all over the land and surrounding it. Can't be sure but I think it's right of centre just above the motorway.
