Death of a DC-10 at Manston

Posted in the History section as that's exactly what 5X-JOE is about to become!

This DC-10-30CF first flew on 9th July 1973 and through its career operated with Sabena, World Airways/Cargo, JAT Yugoslav Airlines, Zambia Airways and finally DAS Air Cargo. It had C/N 47906 and Line number 115.

General view of the site

The fuselage stands on its own wheels

Hopefully, the cockpit (left) will be preserved

The tail is enormous!

All photographs were taken on Sunday 6th May 2012.

I would never go to the "boneyards" in the United States to see old aeroplanes in mothballs or being broken up as it would be just too sad.

To see the Queen of the Skies "The mighty DC10" in that condition is even sadder.

I wonder how long before the other frames adjacent to the DC-10 will be scrapped ? It makes you wonder why they are/were left so long assuming that that they wouldn't fly again and could have value realised against them in some form.
