East-West-ish, with no Roman influence. Not in France, nor was it naval, and even though on my esrly visits I should not have been there I found it very civil. As for the round building, I might have to ask the ......

Railway was mentioned; yes, a line exists. The airfield is advertised as International, and does indeed have scheduled international flights. An assassination nearby, nearly 100 years ago, may have had a profound effect on the course since taken by the country wherein lies the airport.
