....but there's no way the silhouette could have hidden the prop way above the upper fuselage.

Something that was dropped from B-29 (hence downward fins) to test sound barrier?

Or the German Silbervogel rocket bomber mock-up upside down on the Lüneburger Heide.

Nothing to do with supersonic testing Reg, it was drop tested (unpowered) from a B-29, but that wasn't its design purpose!

Edited to say, stay where you were with your first suggestion (USA)!

Aerodynamics, drop-form, etc. I'll find the terms, justamoment.

Drop-body concept.

Just stuck with Stack. And that was for high speed - transsonic. Maybe they dropped bomb-like missiles with assembled wings for other reasons, too.....

I seem to have given you the idea that it was something other than it actually was, sorry

Not a Drop-body concept, it was powered BTW, but I don't believe it ever flew under power!

Just to get back to square 1: Unmanned, powered, for testing, in the USA, and dropped from B-29?

I would question the word "testing" as I think you mean it! It did have a specific role that I've half mentioned!

Edited to say, no need to apologise Reg, have a good evening

Try to get back before the "Wizard of Oz" stirs mate

Dunno really.

Maybe "Felt-Tip Oz" or the fastest win?

Maybe even the longest lasting, or most obscure.

Possibly banter comment of the year..........

G'day Stig! Can you elaborate on this? 1939-1945 again?

G'day Graeme,

That's a bit early mate, a little later, but not too much, so early Cold War!

A Rainbow gadget for testing radar cross section? Or a parasite fighter?

Welcome back Reg! You've got competition!

Not a Parasite, and not for "Testing" radar cross-sections , but you're on the right track with the latter!

Hmmm...not a bomb. Not an aerodynamic test vehicle. Not designed specifically for the B-29. Early Cold War. "Powered, but never flew under power"....
It did have a specific role that I've half mentioned!
Do you mean it was some sort of engine test-bed?

I was just about to remind Reg of that! But it isn't engine testing!

Re Broelman's View above!

Don't worry sport, at least the Aussies will beat the Pommie Baards to 2011

Not at all mate! Reg is welcome to it.

How come you're into this "Unmanned" phase of life lately? Found a good website?
