The runways are still plainly marked on OS maps. My wife and I did some gliding there hundreds of years ago so it's close to my heart.

Not with 615 hundreds of years ago! Wives were not allowed to fly then! Indeed any female interest was frowned upon!

Main drag as it is now 03/21
Short runway 31/13

Not sure if this is frowned upon but try www.615vgs.com

FantomZorbin. Dunno - I was an erk in the ATC and my wife (then my girlfriend) was in the WJAC. We were whizzed around the circuit in brick-built Sedbergs (?) during air experience flights. Neither of us got as far as taking it up seriously unfortunately..

It's spelt Sedbergh with a 'h'. Anyway nothing wrong with them; I got my 'C' in one at Bovingdon, and did many hours AEG at both Bovingdon and Halton, even managing to Cat 5 one - it was rebuilt later though 'cos it was a presentation ship.(Mrs Heppel for those who recall except Honey Monster of course!)

Spent a couple of boyhood years at Kenley - about 1960. The airfield perimeter was littered with aircraft wrecks, (I remember a Spitfire)and a burnt out bomber ISTR. Whiled away many an afternoon in a rusty cockpit and shot down over 100 enemy aircraft ....

halcyon days.....
