Texel air starting up at Auckland

Looks like a certain NZ based freight only operator has got some competition.

If it's Airwork you're referring to, I'd say competition is the wrong word. A quality company like Texel will bury this GA at best operator.

B737-800BCF does not have ETOPS. Trans-Tasman could be interesting

Snakecharma 22nd Feb 2023 05:16

The 737-800 freighter conversions, depending on who did them, have 180 mins ETOPS.

I beg to differ, if we are playing semantics over EDTO/ETOPS that’s one thing but to say that the aeroplanes are not certified with up to 180 etops is not correct

Always good to see new opportunities arise for workers who deserve such. AWK to XLR, got a feeling you won't regret it.

I agree it’s good to see an addition to the job opportunities available.

Semantics, or accuracy?

I don't see any claim made that the ability to operate to 180 minutes after an engine failure was not certified.

Pedantry?

from EASA playbook

“The 737-800BCF is not approved for ETOPS. IV. Operating and Service Instructions. 1. Airplane Flight Manual (AFM):. Boeing Document D631A001.”—-///—/

Aeronautical Engineers, Inc has received ETOPS 180 approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its B737-800SF freighter conversion.

The ETOPS 180 approval allows the B737-800SF freighter to fly 180-minute extended operations over water and remote regions.

Without ETOPS approval aircraft must be within 60 minutes flying time of an airport where they can make an emergency landing.

ETOPS issues aside, this operator does not have an NZ AOC as far as I'm aware. Good luck expediting that process with the NZ regulator.

A Texel painted 737 was seen in Brisbane the other night.

That’s incorrect…they use the Trans-Tasman agreement. This allows any Australian or New Zealand Operator to operate in each other’s country.

The ANZA agreement within the aviation act only applies to NZ and Aus operators .The CAA NZ part 129.3 rule is explicit .That doesn’t mean that a foreign AOC airline cannot seek an alleviation via exemption.
