Most definitely is the airline's name.

The first two airframes are to be named Bonza Sheila and Bonza Bloke. Apparently they will be progressively supplemented by Bonza Dog, Bonza Weekend, Bonza Meat Pie and Bonza Time. Management are still to submit for board approval Bonza Holiday and Bonza Mate.

There must be others I'd imagine?

They could resurrect the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band to do their ads for them?
Urban Spaceman can be Bonza's theme song -

Here we go…as expected, it was never going to be a walk in the park. I still don’t think CASA will approve this with Flight Operations outsourced. I have many questions around that let alone CASA who would have a million questions.

Tiger learnt the hard way when they tried running an in house operation, with a Safety department run from Singapore, let alone a third party provider running the whole show from abroad. No chance.

How’s flight operations outsourced?

CAE are running the whole thing from line crews to check and training.

Budget airline Bonza delays takeoff by three months

By ROBYN IRONSIDE, AVIATION WRITER
12:01AM MAY 18, 2022

New budget airline Bonza has pushed back its planned takeoff in Australia from June to September due to delays in the delivery of aircraft and regulatory approvals.

Three new Boeing 737 Max 8s are now expected to touchdown in July and August by which time the airline hopes to have the recruitment of flight and cabin crew finalised.

The first three jets will be based on the Sunshine Coast with subsequent deliveries to be based in Melbourne, as part of Bonza’s 27-route regional network.

In the “interests of transparency”, Bonza chief commercial officer Carly Povey broke the news of the delayed start to travellers in a website post on Wednesday. Ms Povey said Bonza wanted to keep people informed after much “positive feedback” and interest about the carrier’s plans.

“What we’re sharing right now is if people have essential travel plans for July and August, we recommend they book (with other airlines),” said Ms Povey.

“We’re hopeful that in the coming weeks we’ll have a further update about when we can go on sale, and our first flights.”

In the meantime, Ms Povey said travellers could download the Fly Bonza app, which would serve as the only option for direct bookings with the airline.

“There’s a number of reasons behind that including our ability to better communicate with customers when they’re at the airport and on board,” she said. “(The app) enables a strong sustainability focus from day one and it allows us to provide people an unrivalled customer experience in terms of food on demand on board.”

A “digital support centre” would be in place to provide assistance, rather than funnelling customers through a call centre.

“We can give speedier service, we can give more direct answers quickly, so for us it will be about improving wait times,” Ms Povey said.

“Wherever possible we want customers to be able to self-serve. Nobody wants to be on the phone for hours and part of the thinking behind the app strategy is that we find a way to improve that response time.”

A further update on when people can start to book is expected in the next four to six weeks, providing Bonza had confidence in the timing of regulatory approvals.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority was continuing to work through the complex process of Bonza’s air operator’s certificate application.

Fares are expected to start around $50 depending on the length of the flight, with passengers able to purchase food and other items such as “Bonza budgie smugglers” on-board.

Backed by US investment firm 777 Partners, Bonza wants to grow the price-sensitive leisure market in Australia, on routes not operated by other major airlines.

The low cost carrier will also be the first domestic airline to fly 737 Max 8s in Australia, with Virgin Australia due to take delivery of four of the controversial aircraft next year.

The Max model was subject to a global grounding in March 2019 after two fatal crashes in five months.

They returned to the skies in December 2020 and are now operated by 37 airlines, including Singapore Airlines and Fiji Airways which use the aircraft on services to Australia.

With the capacity for 210 passengers, questions have been raised as to whether they are too large for the routes Bonza planned to operate, such as Sunshine Coast-Coffs Harbour, and Newcastle-Whitsunday Coast.

How does an app only booking system with no web page booking option equal "a strong sustainability focus"?

Um, because it allows them to provide people an unrivalled customer experience in terms of food on demand on board, or some equally inane jibber-jabber rationale.

Do this crowd have anyone onboard who has a track record of actually running an airline successfully?

Summary: A "number" of currently employed aviation staff jumping ship to join Bonza.

Believe it or not.

CX + redundant Tiger and Virgin crew and QF 737 engineers. QF ground staff too.

I still struggle to see how CASA is going to let this get off the ground with the entirety of Flight Ops outsourced. Is Parc going to setup it’s own Bonza buildings with associated Bonza departments locally? They sure won’t want to spend the cash but will most certainly take the cheque with the contract.

As soon as Parc starts running things off shore, problems arise then Canberra gets upset. Canberra needs to avoid the Tiger mess again, try running an airline with associated departments off shore and you will be grounded soon after. Let alone a third party.

you might want to check what you write…..PARC (RH) isn’t overseas, but in OZ. 😏
they will probably be running the interviews, what’s wrong with that ?

PoppaJo 9th Jun 2022 07:13

CASA isn’t interested in the recruitment process. They are looking at the safety and training departments in fine detail.

you are obviously assuming that a bunch of clowns will be running Bonza, unlike the others 😂
after spending what they are going to to obtain an AOC and Aircrafts, why would they employ idiots and run a dodgy operation? Sorry I don’t get it…

PoppaJo 9th Jun 2022 07:30

Having been apart of a AOC process before, the issue that I, and others also have talked about, is the Parc/Bonza relationship and getting a AOC approved. Things become incredibly complex should you wish to outsource the entire flight operation, the only people on the Bonza payroll being a dozen or two up in MCY. You could have the best brains in both, that’s not the issue here, nobody claimed these people are idiots, far from it, but nobody has outsourced a safety and training department as such, to a third party. That is why this is being held up, from what I have heard, and exactly as I expected. So perhaps Bonza manages the Safety and Training departments? Again, involves incredible detail from Canberra.

Who is accountable and responsible for the long list of things that Canberra is looking at. Is it Parc or Bonza?

Money is irrelevant. You can throw as much cash at the process as you want, and as I have seen before, that doesn’t exactly stop the questions and responses asked to you from our friends in Canberra. It gets to a point, where you just don’t bother and walk away. Much more going on behind the scenes, don’t get sucked in to all the rainbows and lollipops being pushed out from marketing departments.

Bunch of clowns? How then would you characterise people who target minuscule markets between city pairs that might be able to support an aircraft (or a fleet of many aircraft ) a quarter of the size of a Max? Either there is some other game running not yet evident or this is the biggest wishful thinking exercise I have ever seen.

l’ve never been involved in management and I don’t have your expertise so I can’t respond to your comment, time will tell.
i only know how to fly aircrafts.
anyway, I wish them to succeed.

Vindiesel 9th Jun 2022 09:40

Jet fuel is running north of USD 170 a barrel and they want to run 190-odd seat jets on markets that established carriers don't operate anywhere near that capacity on...... yikes.

buzzz.lightyear 9th Jun 2022 10:35

They'll be gone by Christmas... That's assuming they even start...

I hate to be picky… but it’s aircraft..aircraft has no plural…like sheep. There are no sheeps. I apologise if English is your second language.
