Qantas LHR via SIN
https://www.qantasnewsroom.com.au/me...d-partnership/
QF1 re-routing via SIN and MEL gets an A380 to SIN. KEY CHANGES The key change will see the airlines better leveraging each other’s networks, by providing three options to Europe – via Dubai, Perth and Singapore[2]. Qantas will re-route its daily Sydney-London A380 service via Singapore rather than Dubai and upgrade its existing daily Melbourne-Singapore flight from an A330 to an A380. As previously announced, Qantas’ existing Melbourne-Dubai-London service will be replaced with its Dreamliner service flying Melbourne-Perth-London. A detailed summary of the changes, including effective dates, is provided at the end of this release. Customer demand for flights between Australia and Dubai will remain well served by the 77 weekly services that Emirates operates from five cities – Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney – including seven daily A380 flights. Qantas passengers will still be able to fly on Emirates to Dubai, where they have access to over 60 onward connections on Emirates to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. :ok: |
Big win for staff travel too! Another 5 years of EK business class!
Can not complain. |
How about bringing QF81/82 (SYD-SIN) through ADL like it used to - would give SA pax to LHR a better deal too !
|
Fattys will be making some good cash again.

With the A380s to SIN replacing A330 services we've certainly released enough A330 capacity to send them ADL- SIN daily.

Lol. No argument there! Where do you have in mind? Seoul would have to be a 'negative bid' at the moment!

They, along with Brisbane pax, will be/are expected to go via Perth for the marathon PER-LHR |

Cape Town?
|
Heard it? I've been pumping that one as hard as I can! :} :ok:
|
Couldn't BNE pax go via SIN too, or do the schedule times not match up? |
If you don't like EK for whatever reason QR or CX out of ADL to LHR starting to look attractive as One-world partners in QF FF points and status credit alternative.
|
Logically under the new deal QF1/2 SIN - LHR with feed from/to SYD and MEL now going to be chockers so should improve the bottom line.
|
And passengers like both the Asian stopover and the A380 product, so despite the MEL/PER/LHR flight, this may be once again a very popular option.
|
All set for when QF 9 Mel/Per/Lon proves to be a commercial disaster...
|
I can see why they've gone back to Singapore - if you have to change planes/stop in Dubai you go Emirates all the way for sure. I paid 75% of the Quantas cost on Emirates MEL-LHR Business earlier this year and the service is far better

Reminds me of one night when I was involved in the old Singapore B747 swap and they were both 5 hours late. They weren't 'delayed', but 'retimed'. ( does this fix a slump in management kpi's?).
I'm assuming if the Melbourne one is delayed, then you might as well delay the Sydney one ?? |
I thought at first glance great, didn't realise that there will only be one 380 from SIN to LHR...

To my knowledge, no. KPIs are grossly exaggerated and have little impact on decision-making, especially in operational areas as the decision-makers are too busy sorting out problems to think about their KPIs and bonuses. I think every supervisor/manager etc always tries to achieve the best outcome for customer and company alike.

Operating another A380 via Hong Kong would sure let a cat loose among the CX pigeons in the immediate and near future! The timings of the QF MEL-HKG A380 mean a six hour layover in SIN until QF1 departs for LHR. Better off taking the later QF A330 MEL-HKG and have just a 90 minute connection in SIN to QF1 |

Not necessarily - going via Singpaore is often more attractive than via Dubai for business or holiday reasons but If Qantas are offering a more expensive product on exactly the same route as Emirates then only poeple with airmiles will fly them. Routing via Singapore is a different offer. Lets face it Dubai is a dump unless you have business there |

Apologies for the thread drift, but I have a question after watching a documentary on Channel 5 called The Secret Life of Long-haul about a QF380 flight from LHR to DBX and SYD. Does QF slip crews in DBX?
It gave the impression there were only three pilots operating. Surely twenty one hours flight time, two sectors and 90 minutes on the ground in DBX is way over any flight time limits. Thank goodness I retired 20 years ago. |
QF have a crew change in DBX. Tech crew fly on to Oz after required rest, Cabin crew are LHR based and return to LHR after required rest.
|
Really? You think they would operate London to Sydney in one duty

I just thought it was a pretty stupid question to ask with a very obvious answer.
|
Why get involved then.

Very welcome news for many of the A380 pilots, what was the name of that bar at Singapore they used to frequent for decades? I imagine the owner there will be very happy to see them back as well!
