is this the end of QF INT ?

$1499 from OZ to LAX return at Xmas, the busiest time of the year.

Things must be really bad.

If they can't sell seats Boxing day to LAX what chance has QF INT of surviving in any form ?

What happens if JQ takes over more QF INT routes ?

In a previous thread someone suggest Flight Centre in NZL were selling AKL/LAX return for $999 but this wouldn't have been peak season, ie. departing mid-late DEC or early JAN.

Stalins ugly Brother 11th Jun 2014 07:00

How many seats are available at this price?

I think you will find it is just marketing doing their job. :ugh:

Another thread that can be closed please moderators.! :ok:

BNEA320 11th Jun 2014 07:03

it's peak season & there are lots of seats. Might only be short duration sale, but it sends a terrible message, ie. we can't sell enough seats so we have to dump them.

You've even got Air Asia & Scoot dumping seats & they are profitable, unlike poor old QF INT.

Wouldn't want to be a QF INT pilot.

Stalins ugly Brother 11th Jun 2014 07:30

Wouldn't want to be a QF INT pilot.
No fear of that........that's what the psych test is for. :E

Do we really need another QF pilot bashing thread???? Mods?

Stalins ugly Brother 11th Jun 2014 07:38

Not sure. But its a sad indictment on individuals that continually feel the need to put this rubbish on these forums. There are plenty of us that know the short comings of what is going on in QF at the moment but to just sledge from the sidelines is just twisted and lacks any sort of empathy towards guys through no direct fault of their own will be demoted or worse made redundant.

I ask the question, what sick individuals take satisfaction from this? :ugh:

$4900 across the pond at Xmas a bit further south. Doing ok there with no competition.

I fly to LA from Melb every 2nd year in early Jan so keep an eye on prices.
I get a stream of emails from Qantas, weekly with special offers incl these type.

However, as Stalins said, probably marketing doing a job using a loss leader, short time offer.

GF went to book flights to Adelaide the other day, advertised $39 each way. It was $99 each way by the time you added all the charges.

I reckon $1499 would be $2000 by the end f the transaction !

Jack Ranga 11th Jun 2014 07:44

And I booked a Virgin return flight to Adelaide, 2 weeks from now & was $208 inclusive. It's on a full service airline that treats it's staff with respect ;)

Jack Ranga 11th Jun 2014 07:45

I've also got a flight to LA booked 6 weeks from now, I paid more than $1500 and was happy to, I won't travel Qantas whilst the midget is CEO ;)

Ken Borough 11th Jun 2014 07:59

It's on a full service airline
Not so, Jack. A full service airline is one that accepts a fare for everything and doesn't require the passenger to pay for fodder or drinks etc. VA expects its 'guests' pay extra for some things. Then again, why should a guest pay for anything? :}

Potsie Weber 11th Jun 2014 08:34

Perhaps they are expecting a new agreement with the pilots to be up by then. Hence saving the company a fortune, returning to big profits and big bonuses for the smartest guys in the room.:\

ohallen 11th Jun 2014 09:51

I am with Jack on the midget.
Why don't the unions do some research on former rat passengers who would return if he was banished to anywhere but here

My money is on a very strong vote from those that count, the slf as support for staff who also are prepared to trade off benefits for productivity provided he and his team don't get to take the savings in bonuses.

Do we really need another QF pilot bashing thread???? Mods?
Agreed, a complete waste of valuable hard-drive space in the vaults of PPRUNE.

Jack Ranga 11th Jun 2014 11:01

Ken, the fares I've paid for are full service old mate ;) the 'extras' you pay for on Virgin you pay for on Qantas.

Jack Ranga 11th Jun 2014 11:08

ohallen, I have family overseas, I travel quite a bit, all of my travel used to be Qantas, NONE of it is now and I'll quite happily show all my receipts, I refuse to travel Qantas while Joyce is CEO. I know of businessmen who have done the same with their travel accounts, it'd be interesting to count the cost.

cnsnz 11th Jun 2014 11:23

Its not just QF with the cheap seats
VA ex AKL/LAX RT $999NZD
DL ex AKL/JFC RT $1349 AKL/SFO RT $1249 all available via Flightcentre

cnsnz 11th Jun 2014 11:24

Should say AKL/JFK not JFC

Eastwest Loco 11th Jun 2014 14:04

cnsnz

If you are being quoted that at Blight Centre then will be lucky to either get that price in the 1st place due to alleged lack of availability or be upsold to a higher product or could get it cheaper elsewhere.

Please remember these dudes are on commission over a low base salary.

That is why you do not get the actual e ticket with the fare construction on it.

That is something you can legally demand - try it!

If the Captain out front is plastic, it's a fair chance the crew are facsimilies as well.

Caveat emptor.

Best all

$1499 from OZ to LAX return at Xmas, the busiest time of the year.
Having operated from Aust to LAX over the Christmas/New Year period for the last 4 years, I can assure you that it is not the busiest time of the year on that route, especially from the 25th-27th. Last Christmas a Virgin friend had the 'pleasure' of operating across the Pacific on the same day and had an equally moderate load as we did.

By the way; with a headline like that you'd make a good journalist!

Ken Borough 11th Jun 2014 23:21

People here are a fickle mob! Don't they realise that boycotting Qantas serves to hurt the many thousands of loyal employees they claim to support. If they really support the Qantas rank and file, they would be doing all they can to see that Qantas endures, notwithstanding the presence at the top of those they decry and despise. The people who suffer most by giving business to Qantas' opposition are those at the coal face and the most vulnerable to the impact of a shrinking market.
