New unifroms = an attempt to polish the turd! It won't work.

However the introduction of nipple clamps, ping pong balls and studded collars will keep my interest going!

So what became of this from 2009?

The Federal Government will ease foreign ownership caps for Qantas Airways, but will ensure the airline remains majority Australian owned, Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says.

Mr Albanese also said the government would allow up to 100 per cent foreign ownership of domestic airlines, subject to wider foreign investment rules, and would offer unlimited access to foreign airlines to Australian secondary airports

"We want to maintain the 51 per cent ownership provisions, we want to maintain the strict provisions that are there for location and the nature of the board," Mr Albanese said today.

Asked specifically about an existing 25 per cent cap on individual foreign ownership in Qantas and a 35 per cent cap on overall holdings by foreign airlines, Mr Albanese said the Government wanted to make sure the carrier had the same rules as other airlines.

The Australian Financial Review today quoted a leaked copy of the policy paper as saying the two limits would be scrapped.

"The aviation white paper says Qantas holds a 'special position in the Australian aviation landscape, and indeed the wider Australian business and cultural psyche'...," it said, citing the reasons for keeping Qantas under local control.

Qantas has said it wants to play a leading role in consolidation, and has looked at Asian carriers for partnerships, but its ownership restrictions are a barrier to equity alliances.

A year ago, Qantas and British Airways called off talks for a $US6.4 billion merger that analysts said could have helped transform an industry in the grip of a global economic downturn and volatile fuel prices.

Qantas and BA could not agree on valuation, but ownership restrictions also presented hurdles to a successful deal.

Anyway. Back to the pressing issue. Who is going to be the new uniform designer?

I'm betting on Bruno!

This is so exciting, I just can't sleep!

You guys are completely off track. Qantas are focusing on the big big issues.

This is the big announcement for this week:

Big important announcement

See what you started The The. Now there will be a total thread (no pun intended) on the QANTAS uniform.

I wonder who will be the fashion designer of the All New Look QANTAS Uniforms. Will it be Anand Jon, Alexandre Herchcovitch,Ashley Isham, Derek Lam, Gok Wan or will we use an Australian fashion designer such as Prue Acton, Lisa Ho, Richard Tyler, Carla Zampatti.

Maybe 49% can be designed overseas and 100% imported.

Worrals in the wilds 30th May 2012 16:40

They've already been designed, here's a pic...:ooh::}

After all, Wirth said there's no hidden agenda so that's got to be the solution...:E

Seriously, new uniform/logo/slogan/name? 99% of the time it translates as 'management need to bury a few bodies and want something with pictures to chuck at the media while they're digging the holes'. :ouch:

I thought they were doing roolly badly at the moment, struggling to stay above water etc etc? Why spend money replacing the uniforms if that's the case?

gobbledock 30th May 2012 20:52

QF94, just like AJ you are going in the wrong direction. Likely designer options will be;
• The House of Kim Jong Il
• Third Reich Uniform PTY LTD
• Empire Of ****e

I have heard that red ties will not be part of the pilots new uniforms.

whatever6719 30th May 2012 23:54

Martin Grant is the designer for the new uniform for those who are interested.
I must be getting old cause Ive never heard of him!

What did I tell you! Martin Grant, a French based Aussie designer. Like everything else in QANTAS these days, AJ has announced the uniforms will be manufactured offshore.

This is no surprise, as ALL our uniforms are manufactured offshore. Just aks the LAME's, Ramp, etc.

How true is the rumour that the new tie for tech crew has a Massive Roo on it in a compromising position, a constant reminder that Joyce is the boss?:E

balance 31st May 2012 05:29

I reckon the new tie will be red...:E

It is no secret, just look on the label inside you item of uniform. Made in Fiji is a common one.

I doubt Tech Cew will get a new uniform. They are after all, for "customer-facing" staff and of course, like our management, we have our backs to our passengers most of the time!

But, unlike our management, you actually provide the customers behind you with a service and get them to their destination safe'n'sound!
