Beard Protest

Apparently a group of disgruntled Mainline people have waged a war on subsidiary Pilots facial hair.

This has resulted in a beard protest being launched by hundreds of QLink Pilots who are now all growing beards.

Should be quite amusing to watch the growth over the next few months.

To be fair there has been a push from mainline pilots to allow mainline pilots to have beards (this has been ongoing for many years).

They get paid less than half of a mainline pilots salary but they get to grow a beard, seems like a fair trade-off to me

This is fantastic, a bit of Straya stick it to them.

Gotta say I did something similar on a personal beard growth strategy, pointing out that if a Sikh could fly with a beard then I could. It got to the point where the CP who was very reasonable said mate, point taken can you please trim it 🤣.

That is not what’s happened. Mainline pilots want to be able to have beards. QF have always said that’s unsafe if you need to use the mask. The subsidiary pilots could have beards, in total contradiction to that “safety case”. When mainline pilots pointed out the double standard, QF decided, rather than discuss allowing Mainline pilots to have beards, that all QF group plots shall adhere to the no beard rule.

100%. Hey BinChook, rather than pathetically denigrate fellow pilots, direct your anger where it belongs. Mainline pilots have NOT directed any angst towards subsidiary pilots over beards. Mainline pilots have wanted to be able to grow beards. It’s management who have decided to remove the double standard, by insisting no beards for eveyone.

I thought even Charlie Q would have been dragged into the 29th century by now. 69 years ago I was told that "Qantas doesn't like its apprentices to have beards. Get it off." Ignored it until I joined the Army, when I at least knew I wasn't allowed to have one.

So subsidiary pilots are qantas for the purposes of control but not qantas for the purposes of anything else?

Welcome to the realisation that Qantas is a cult.
They will tell you how to look, how to act, who to talk to, who not to talk to wth out a senior cult member present.
They will tell you how to feel about matters both political and social.
You will be ostracised and possibly bannished from the cult for opinions contrary those formulated by senior members of the cult.
Wake up, sheeple, we are members of a cult.

I. Admit it’s been a long time since I checked, but wouldn’t flying at Fl 250 keep one in controlled airspace and negate the need for a quick donning oxygen mask?
