Aircircuses wants to raise fees

"Airlines flying in Australia may soon pay more for air traffic control services, which could result in a rise to already inflated airfares.

"Airservices Australia – the government-owned body that oversees air navigation in Australia – has proposed to the competition watchdog an increase in its fees for the first time since 2015. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission [ACCC] will seek industry consultation until January 19 before making a determination.

"If the suggested price increase is implemented, international and domestic airlines will pay an average of 19 per cent more for navigation and aviation firefighting services across four rises between mid-2024 and 2026.

"Airservices has not increased fees since a 0.4 per cent rise in 2015. It dropped its fees by 2 per cent in 2019 after a restructure to “rebalance revenue growth driven by international airline operations over 2018”, a spokesperson said."

An airline to avoid with that config, even though it is certified with that number.

But what happens when my bundle of Airservices rights includes, for example, a SFIS on arrival at and departure from Ballina, when SFIS is NOTAMd unavailable? I suppose the answer is that Airservices isn't actually obliged to provide any services (other than to notify everyone a service is not available) especially if there's no charge for them. Next thing we know the telcos will NOTAM the 000 service unavailable.

Out of interest what do they charge the freighters? UPS, FedEx, Oz Post are the same size aircraft.

Using Quaint-Arse's A330 P2F VH-EBF as a guide, WSSS-YSSY would be $4,536.97 including GST. If you plug in -EBA instead of -EBF, there's no difference in pricing, still $4,536.

AsA charges by MTOW, there is a Terminal Navigation charge, a ARFF charge, Enroute charge, a MET charge (collected by AsA for BoM) and GST.
I think SMH Business was trying to illustrate the $$ per passenger. A330, empty, full, passenger or freighter, it's all the same.

Yep, it would be an interesting Excel spreadsheet that divvies up the costs across multiple ANSPs depending on the routes flown.
