HAPPY CENTENARY TO "OUR AIRLINE"....
Thread Starter
I started this thread because a LOT of VERY GOOD, HONEST people work for what I call "Our Airline", and THAT is what makes it 'OUR'.......
It is 'THEY' who deserve the 'pat on the back'.
Don't tar all with the same brush..
IMHO........... YEP.... a SAD situation......BUT.....HAPPY CENTENARY BIRTHDAY to ALL of the WORKERS, past and present...!!!

ex The Queensland Country Life: Qantas Founders celebrate 100th birthday at LRE.....
I intend to celebrate the day by reading the last two chapters of Elizabeth Fysh's wonderful book "When Chairmen were Patriots", the story of Sir Fergus McMaster and the other founders of Qantas. While they didn't have to contend with a pandemic, for there were no airlines to speak of when the previous pandemic struck in 1918, they did have to contend with the Great Depression and their aeroplanes being shot down.

It's not "Our Airline". If anything it's Sydneys airline. Its been leeching money out of Australians pockets for a very long time. It's gotten rid of its engineering excellence as well.
It’s so sad to read the posts of so many haters. Fact is whether they like it or not, Qantas is a hundred years old, a rare feat. Surely it’s time for these people to put their hates and prejudices to one side and recognise such a significant achievement? After all, the haters are in a minority.
Well for all its faults, I freely admit to a twinge of pride when I see that red tail in some faraway place.
Yep Happy 100, a very long way from its origins. Even today driving through the outback you have to have nothing but admiration for the early pioneers. Many on here like me even started in ‘advanced’ GA aircraft although before GPS.
A very long way from then, many haters, but kudos to QF as it plays as the Aussie airline. No one can say I still call Australia home is not one of the most iconic ads ever run.
Smart when necessary, ugly at times. I’m not pro or negative as I don’t work at the rat. Having a dig re maintenance whilst I agree that offshore is not ideal but look at the reasons why, also look how many airlines do offshore.
Like the OP said this is about an iconic airline turning 100.
There are plenty of other (everyone) QF threads turning anti, how about keeping happy in these extremely testing times, survival is the goal for most.

A”National Airline”? Where were the celebrations in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart? All that happened was half of Sydney stopped sodomising the other half long enough to ask; “ was that a jet flying over dear?” “We haven’t heard one for a while”.
‘’Qantas is a Sydney - centric private corporation that masquerades as Australian when it suits it and at other times pretends to be an international organisation with no allegiance to anyone.

Two of my favourites on the same page...Normanton and Sunfish!
Very proud to work for QF, and hopefully for many more years to come. It’s not perfect by any means, but not many large organisations are!

Arguably, the BEST tail 'logo' in 'OUR Airline's history........
Easy recogniseable for what it is supposed to represent....IMHO....

Wot Griffo said back in post #21.
And a good one Turnleft080.
Honestly, sometimes the negative attitudes of some posters on this site, when a genuine attempt to put a positive slant on some organisation which despite some obvious faults still is an example of a reasonably successful enterprise......
Further comment fails me. Another Barossa Shiraz please, Barkeep.

QF Seen Around The World As Australia's Flag Carrier
Wish all at QF the best in these challenging times due to the Covid Crisis
One thing that stands out is their selection of aircraft types that they purchased over the years and especially after WW11.
So much pressure to buy British produced aircraft. But management stood firm and ordered Lockheed Constellations and then Modified B707's. Lockheed Electra Mk11 and the B747.
If you include QF Short Haul/TN into the mix then Australia may have entered the jet age earlier buy purchasing the Sud Aviation Caravelle was it not for Reg Ansett putting a stop to it.
Can remember the late Bruce Mclaren (radio operator and QF navigation dept.) telling me years ago that Qantas engineers had doubts about the integrity of the Comet 1 airframe well before the accidents.
Let us all remember the QF is seen around the world as our Flag Carrier and one can only hope it survives despite all the politics etc.
