Red face CASA no longer inspects foreign AMOs

Think your aircraft is properly inspected or maintained? Have a look at the latest B717, B737, A380 maintenance facilities CASA has just approved. None of them ever had an inspection by CASA, everything was done by desktop and even worse. They were only ever done by middle managers. Word is that the inspectors recommendations were completely disregarded. Sydney was the worst culprit. Then a middle level manager from Queensland got the flick. But not because he signed off on the facility, because PW had other ideas. Stay tuned, this is only the beginning.

Caren12,
I presume you think CASA has anyone capable of doing a competent audit (as opposed to a gotcha exercise) ---- where did that notion come from??
Tootle pip!!

Is this more evidence of the mantra "you must be useless if you don't work for QF"? Plenty of really competent people at CASA my friend. How bout maybe its an organisational problem, just like most other government departments.

CASA in bed with Qantas

CASA working for Qantas, anyone heard about FAA and Boeing and the government are right in there supporting it at the cost of LAME jobs here in Australia. All about money stuff the people not to mention the issues with overseas maintenance which even CASA turns a blind eye to.

LeadSled may have a point. Brisbane CASA not the actual centre of aviation oversight. GC has been given a green light to look after a kangaroo. Grease through anything they need. And the political master SC has another 3 years of Govt support. EIEIO or is it ALAEA? Where is that leak? Melbourne does not forget and Darwin despises SC's direct insert. TF in Perth actually wasn't so bad when you look at the current crop. Look for a letter drop next week.

This one has gone quiet. Rumour around the traps is that there is huge issues internally with our regulator between management and staff. Word is inspectors are being ignored and made to sign off on things they don't agree with. Anyone hearing anything?

I have noticed that nothing has emanated from CASA for AGES - no movement on 48.1/Part 121/etc... Must be something brewing!

The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics revealed Qantas carried 18.2 per cent of all travellers in and out of Australia in March. Jetstar held 9 per cent of the market, and Virgin Australia 6.7 per cent.

A total of 33.9%

Is any one seriously suggesting CASA physically inspecting and authorising the same foreign MROs that are authorized to perform maintenance on the foreign registered aircraft that carry 66.1% of the international traffic adds any significant value to safety?

Me thinks if any one is saying a desktop audit just doesn't cut it sounds like an AWI or SSI jostling for a business class soiree at the expense of the foreign MRO and ultimately the operators who have to pay CASAs exorbitant fees.

The games some people play. The pot calling the kettle black is always a healthy addition to a good debate except when it is an over paid executive who gets paid the big bucks to screw the worker. We may not be able to buy Australian anymore, but we can still employee Australians, so get your airline mates to keep maintence in Australia then you wont need to attack your own employees.

As an ICAO contracting state, isn’t CASA required to oversight their authorisation holders? If they don’t inspect these overseas facilities how do they meet their obligations? By relying upon the work of other regulators? That’s worked out so well hasn’t it? Anyone seen a 737 Max lately?

And from what the refueller at Leigh Creek told me, CASA approves some of these overseas organisations to conduct functions that only Australian AOC holders need ie other NAAs haven’t assessed these organisations to perform that particular function. So no-one has in fact done an on-site assessment for that function.

So, now knowing that no-one has ever inspected the facilities that perform that inspection or check on a VH registered aircraft, how do you feel about getting on board one of those aircraft??

Well what you say makes perfect sense, complying with this countries law, maintaining our mandated safety standards, but seems Zhoottoo thinks it is all rubbish, he is an executive, he must be right, what would the rest of us know. Relying on the FAA at this particular time when they have shown safety wasnt the priority sends all the wrong message
