Name the new Sydney airport
Why does it have to be named after a so-called luminary? Drive around Australia and you'll see all manner of bridges, viaducts, floodways, culverts etc named after local or national do-gooders. What a waste of effort, especially as it's generally impossible to establish just who the hell was, or is, John Smith, or what he did. Perhaps Edward Moses Obeid would be as appropriate as anything. Silly, innit?

'So called luminary' 'do-gooders' 'what a waste of effort' 'generally impossible to establish..'
A lot of people after whom things are named are neither 'so called luminaries' or 'do-gooders' and very often it very easy to establish who they are- read the plaque or 'google' them.
It's a great way to get people to think about history and the 'do-gooders' contribution to the area or society. Perhaps even a providing a little inspiration for people to get out from in front of their computers or TV and do something.
Perhaps 'government road A' or 'black metal bridge' would suit you?
Sad to see your default thoughts are negative. There's plenty of good out there Ken, just open your eyes and have a look; and I'm not being flippant, I really mean it. It's good or your health.

Whats the betting there will be a rail link to Canberra before a link to Sydney? For naming I think it would be great for corporate sponsor names. So Etihad airport or ANZ airport and change the name every few years when you find a sponsor willing to pay more $$.

Reference the earlier suggestion of Hubert Wilkins...a quote of his from 100 years ago seems more than appropriate...
'Australia's willingness to accept mediocrity makes us the poorest rich nation on earth'.
My vote is for Hubert Wilkins International.

It should definitely not be named after Sir Hubert Wilkins. Currently the Australian Antarctic Division airfield in the Antarctic is appropriately named the Wilkins Runway as Sir Hubert was intimately involved in that continent.
This is not to decry the greatness of this largely forgotten Australian.
As previously suggested Sydney Badgery's Creek is quite acceptable thanks.

Just stop beating around the bush and name it "Australia International Airport".
Then they can build those high speed rail links to the fringe suburbs like Brisbane and Melbourne

Runway and a terminal with no bus or rail to get there. Parking spaces will be available for $20 per 30 minutes. Airport makes a massive profit from excessive terminal rents, car parking, pickup and drop off fines at $200 per occurrence.
Airports in Australia where the banks make more yield by ripping people off on the ground than airlines do by transporting goods and passengers.

Reckless Kelly International Airport?
Since most airports these days are being transformed into shopping malls charging exorbitant prices, that just happen to have nearby runways, why not choose a name with similar reputation that is much better known outside Oz than most local luminaries - Ned Kelly International?
If funding is tight for the actual runway, they could turn the drag strip into the main runway. How about Robert Pearson International Drag-Strip? Capt. Pearson safely glide landed a 767 on a decommissioned runway, with minimal damage to the aircraft.
