Competition is heating up for them ex Oz.

Etihad now has twice the amount of direct Melbourne-ME flights than Emirates, and the A380 starts in a few weeks, with a ripper lounge opening this week too.

Qatar has just started Adelaide/Sydney with Brisbane expected with an increase in rights becomes available.

Meanwhile our airlines are failing at all levels of their business. OTP, service, lounges, cabin appearance, staff engagement........you name it.

Our airlines as in the Aussie airlines or our airlines as in those in the sandpit which is where your location says you are Blitzkrieger?

Aussie airline OTP is at record highs. Qantas metrics for service, lounges, cabins, etc is at a high level both historically and compared to competitors.

I'd say the QF group is in pretty good shape. It'd be even better if it'd paid for the new jets, but you can't win them all I suppose.

Some glasses are half full, some are half empty, some are cracked and need some serious attention.

Regardless of the commercial success of the individual Australian airline (yes I know) the service delivered by both major Australian airlines (excluding their LCC siblings) is excellent in the main and far superior to that delivered by any of the Us carriers, potentially with the exception of JetBlue and Virgin America.

The us majors are horrible experiences and the Ozzie punters don't know how good they have it.

That all said if they aren't a commercial success great service isn't sustainable, but that is a whole different discussion

"Our financial results for 2015 were the best we've ever had, we're giving returns back to the shareholders, our customer ratings are the best they've ever been, and our engagement with our people is the best it's ever been. We're now investing in (our pilots) with new uniforms and in recruitment of pilots for the Boeing 787s
Yup, QF are really struggling.

Shame Alan can't force himself to actually order any new jets for Qantas.
Imagine an airline ceo that gets paid absolute truckload that can't afford a Parker to sign on the dotted line when it comes to mr Boeing or Airbus.
Despite my dislike of the previous CEO, at least he ordered jets for the future.
I suppose for Alan the bigger achievement is the signing of the agreement with Martin Grant.

Keg, irrespective of where I live and for whom I work, I still call Australia home.

The facade the airlines display to the public is one of business as usual, where in fact the truth is very different. We may not be as bad as some other countries (the US), but we're well on our way, and besides, who actually thinks aspiring to less is a good thing?
