Mystery Jet at Sydney

Can someone tell me what kind of aircraft was parked on the eastern (corporate) apron at SYD at about 11am this morning? Was it a Sukhoi something-or-other, or a Tupolev thingy-ma-jig?

787?

I thought I saw a 787-8 in an Emirati "government" paint scheme parked facing south near Clive Palmer's Gulfsteam.

Is that what you're talking about?

D'oh!

In my defence I was looking at the 787; not the light twin with winglets!

.....then you would probably mistake a B787 for something more exotic!
Thought the vertical stabiliser was too solid for a 78
Never mind, I'm used to setting myself up for ridicule

Ah yes, but I heard that he returned to the aircraft this afternoon, threw his tools in the back and took off in disgust.

It was a B788 operated by the government of the UAE. Callsign 'Sultan 04'.

The guy on the radio sounded like Goldmember ("isn't dat veered?")...

Left SYD for CBR this morning as we taxied out.

Heading home this afternoon saw aircraft from Islamic Republic of Iran parked at executive jet / air ambo area. Quick lookup at planespotters.net it is most likely A340-313 EP-AJA, foreign minister in CBR.

73to91,
Yes, and he's making headlines...
"Mohammed Zarif, Iran's Foreign Minister criticises Australia's treatment of refugees."

So, he thought he'd take the A340 for a spin just to tell us that?
Of course not. He's just here to discuss matters that 'could be to our mutual benefit'.
Well, good start, mate.

I wonder if whoever's arrived in UAE's 78 is here to deliver a similar message.

They were publicly or privately shopping. For public read "Emirates" as in airline. However, a certain member of a certain royal family uses a C17 (yes, one of those military jobs) to go shopping in NCL. Now call me old fashioned, but the cars and such like loaded suggest that this is more personal than corporate or governmental. But, there again, maybe they actually were military Ferraris or Astons.
