In the new schedule Skytrans does Bamaga via Lockhart River on the way up, and direct to Cairns on the way back. With Rex flying direct, is there enough traffic to support both?

Also, I notice Rex has dropped the direct Townsville-Isa flight in favour of Cairns-Isa twice daily, which makes more sense given there is no competitor. It strikes me that Rex is making a commitment up north.

With Tumble of the economy and the amount of Dash 8's parked up against the fence hope that they got a bloody good deal on the leasing rate!

I reason they would have negotiated a very good deal on the Dash 8's, considering they are serial numbers 5 and 36.

New schedule

Following their 'whole of community approach' Skytrans II have added some more flights:
Regional Flights to Cape York, Bamaga, Mount Isa, Cairns, Brisbane & Western Towns | Skytrans

Flights from Weipa to Cairns $149, that matches the cheapest Q'link fare.... Interesting times ahead!

The community approach appears solid. The 300 is going to commence direct services north on peak days and a 100 contract Is in negotiation phase apparently ex BNE.

Whilst that may be the case, the current fleet stands at x 2 Dash 8-100's?

Rumour to hand is that West Wing is transferring over to Skytrans.
Some positions are now redundant. Can anyone confirm?

That's not correct Eddie. Maybe some time in the future after the model is proven and the operation matures.

Skytrans has 2x -100 and will likely operate a -300 sometime fairly soon. More likely to keep them in flying order for the leasing company than a long term arrangement - but you never know.

West Wing in trouble already - Scaretrans dejavu

It's starting to fall apart

The curse of Thick Miney strikes again?
West Wing got belted earlier in the year with 21 CASA NCN's. CASA are coming back this month for a more comprehensive audit. However there are massive issues at West Wing including -
*Losing money hand over fist and now over $250k in the red since taking on the Dashes and the Scaretrans AOC
* CP pilot has just quit and going to JetGo. Toodogs got the promotion to CP
* Safety Manager has resigned. They have and ad on Seek but nobody want's the job while the shonk commercial manager Miney is there
* Operations manager has also quit
* Continuous engineering issues, busted Dashes and lousy OTP
* Unhappy clients and staff
* No formal ground operations manuals and procedures including one little important thing called load control

Who knows, maybe Miney will bring back Dejapoo for the engineering side of things and TCAS to help with pilot training? Then all you need is Murapee and 'Simon says' to come back and juggle the finances?
Poor West Wing, it was a good GA operation until someone dazzled them with visions of bigger planes and loads of money. I am afraid they have been sold a lemon.

First hand can say Flight ops/145/42/commercial cohesive , new owner actively involved and no team memos! TheOTP is higher than average as is utilisation. Plenty of hours and taking on more crew. Changed since your days now have QF and Rex and loads still good you could check yourself but being banned from CS assume next flight your on will have to be from TL after your CAPL exit/rant. As you know CASA were across the management changes once the AOC reestablished. The team assembled are making it work.
What's the next sad grey chapter for you D? Failed at CASA, unnatural causes had You depart Skytrans, minor issues at Cairns airport. CQ posting possibly, good place for a compo claim, slip on some bull sh*t. Maybe terrorise the crop dusters in the meantime! BTW they are coal miners out there.

Enough

Give it a rest guys. This is why our industry has really declined to an all time low, fighting amongst our own. It's hard enough fighting the company managers and the bureaucracy of the modern day regulator. That is where your energies should be expended. If you want an example of what happens when we fight each other please research Captain Stanley Keys and you will get my point.
Is it possible to get back on thread?

A nice sentiment P377 and I am not disagreeing with you but aviation by its very nature is competitive and full of alpha males.

If you want an example of what happens when we fight each other please research "1989 pilots dispute" and you will get my point.

Anyone got an update on what Rex is actually up to on their new proposed Gulf runs?

Been a lot of talk by them, I am a bit confused what is actually happening.

Good luck to Skytrans Mark II

SKYTRANS SOARS WITH NEW $25 MILLION CONTRACT - Skytrans

Looks like Skytrans MkII will take over from GAM in October.

Great news for Skytrans, but not so good news for the GAM crews unfortunately.

Guess GAM's plans to introduce two Dornier 328's will be shelved.

What now 4 GAM

With that contract loss & lik lik use for the Do 228s ( we know they made a nice $ out of QGC with many closed flts charters to the QLD Gas fields in the past ) what now for GAM

CS Port Authority drove the aerodrome prices up that much up here that they had to close the CASH COW CS BASE & Weipa is finished, dead & buried

what now Melissa ???

Best wishes to one of Australias top GA companies
