Ex J* A332's

Stale food for thought...
I realise it's a pointless discussion now, but in hindsight wouldn't it of made more sense refurbing and reconfiguring the later B763ER's and transferring them across to J*? Several sources are now saying that WestJet are taking 4 x 94-97 build QF B763's for their Hawaiian services (I've heard it's -OGN and O, but other sources at saying it's the 4 International configured ones -OGR thru to U).
WestJet are reported to be extensively refurbishing these aircraft with new interiors, IFE and winglets prior to them entering service.
Air Canada's Rouge is a recent example of a LCC that is still acquiring B763's from its parent, revamping them and using them on long range services.
This would of enable QF to retain their A332's and open up new possibilities with the 788's and/or lease them out to generate revenue.
Also reports the QF CFO has a plan B for Perth and reintroducing Singapore services are back on the table, which will no doubt involve the A330 fleet.

Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. As I understand it, at the time JQ longhaul was being dreamed up, the A332s were the orphans in the fleet because the longer turnarounds were causing some issues on the domestic operation. At that time they preferred the 763s for additional lift, while there was little incentive to add too many widebodies to the transcon services. And they were going to be replaced soon after with the 788s, allowing the A332s to come back to QF. Of course, the 788s were delayed by years, Virgin got widebodies for the transons and the market changed in a way that QF/JQ did not see coming, or if they did they moved too late to address it.
Hopefully now with the A332s going back to QF and getting new interiors they will move across to the international arm and start right-sizing some of their markets.

Once I've burnt my FF miles (IF I ever manage to actually get a QF flight using them) I will never fly on QF again.

I've also read the report about the possibility of PER-SIN being reinstated. We had SIN for most of July and going by the amount of transfer bags I loaded (many for BA16) there is still a need for the service.
