police use mobile speed cameras "in the name of safety" around accident blackspots, surely the use of high beam in their proximity surely just reinforces the message and helps ensures traffic passes these blackspots at a safe speed?

There's a difference between entrapment and enforcement. The Police are supposed to uphold the Law, IE they are supposedly a deterrent to lawbreaking.....unfortunately, they raise more revenue and statistically "solve more crimes" by practising entrapment.

I gave up Nicotine over 30 years ago, very occasional Alcohol drinker, occasional user of over-the- counter medications (Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Paracetamol)

Other than that, I have never tried or used illegal drugs but recognise the political agenda at work in selective targetting .
Cannabis is less harmful than Alcohol, but it demotivates the worker.....after a night on the bottle, you'll still turn-to with a hangover and do a bit......the Weed smoker tends to wake up, think "bollix to it,there'll still be work to do tomorrow"
roll over and back to sleep. Government can't have that!....Which ever party thinks of doing an about-face and legalising any low-risk "drugs" faces Political Suicide as that would be a tacit admission they have lied to the electorate for the last 60 years or so!.

Friend on Tankers (Merchant Navy) did the Vietnam oil -run.....the bum-boats would bring a bucket fullof Weed for a half a crown......Captain was furious, stores fullof unsold beer and cigarettes but rollingtobacco and papers sold out....friend saved record amounts duringthat period and also avoided his usual problems of drunken brawling...(he was an Aussie!)

Re the speed cameras: Sorry to tell you this - but flashing your lights to warn oncoming motorists about speed traps, can see you charged with obstructing police operations.

Dr Dre is correct. The "War of Drugs" would cease overnight if all "illegal" drugs were produced to a set purity and standard by a Govt dept, and sold at modest prices, along with substantial health advice and support.
When all's said and done, most drug users die from impurity and a lack of quality of the product they're consuming -along with numerous other health issues related to trying to keep drug consumption hidden.
As soon as a druggie OD's, his "friends" run away and leave him/her to die, instead of getting help for him/her. That's entirely due to a fear of being caught with drugs.
The failure of the War on Drugs is due almost completely to a lack of understanding by authorities of the attraction of illegal items, by many people.
Make the illegal stuff legal and it ceases to have the attractiveness it has, when it is illegal.

Smokes and liquor are equally evil to the illegal drugs, but are tolerated. There's just constant pressure of education and tight standards on advertising to keep tobacco and alcohol under some sort of control. Personally, I'd like to see advertising reduced further for alcohol.

My BIL was a total druggie, and was nearly killed by drugs. His mother died of cancer when he was 13, and his father, a Police Supt, failed to give his son the support he needed at a crucial stage of his young life.
BIL turned to petty crime, then drugs - then after his near-death experience (SWMBO found him and saved him with quick medical intervention), he stumbled aimlessly around for years, before he found a niche with computers and teaching.

He's currently a senior IT teacher and hasn't touched drugs for probably 30 yrs - and he never will again. He's got a good partner, two gorgeous late teenage girls, and he's dead against drug use.
However, we all know it takes a concerted effort to help those who have a constant need for a chemical crutch. Not all of them are lost causes.

Amazing response to this rather odd situation. but that aside I think some here miss the point. Illegal drugs are just that illegal, booze is not illegal, that's it in a nutshell. So until the law makers deem drugs legal even for personal use then there is no place for them in our society. No question liquor is or can be nasty but again it's not illegal.
So yes let the suckers feel the full force of the law & also yes major back pedal sadly.
Zero tolerance for drug users & god 'elp us if they ever allow it

A timely medical report getting media attention this morning states that 15 aussies die per day to due the short medium and long term effects of excess consumption of alcohol.
Over 5000 per year, the figure was 3000 a decade ago.
155000 pissheads are hospitalised annually.

Flashing your lights at cars has been covered by lawyers over the yrs more times than I can count and the word has always been it is not illegal to warn anyone of a spd camera etc, but using your high beam is against the road act witnin 600m of an oncoming car, if my memory of road rules is correct, which is what police always ticket you for.

My local in Melbourne used to warn punters where there was a "traffic hazard" ie booze bus. Not illegal in my eyes.
