Security Breach at Auckland

I understand, that in the last day or so, a passenger without a ticket or boarding pass, was able to get through all security & other checks & sit in the front of an aircraft about to depart, all this without any questions being having been asked at all.
If my understanding is correct, this surely is an appalling breach of security & makes a mockery of all the current regulations & procedures put in place to enhance the safety of air travel.

To be honest I don't know the details, but the article sounded like a load of horsesh*t.
There is no check of boarding pass when you go through security, nor should there be. Security are there to remove dangerous items.
Yes you can waltz past the person at the gate, but that doesn't mean they haven't seen you. Security was called to the aircraft to remove the woman, story over.
The Mr Martin in the article looks like he was itching to see his name in the newspaper, and has achieved such while making himself look like an idiot in my opinion.

You sure about that MDA?

So anyone can go to security and so long as they don't have anything pointy they'll be allowed through?

Or: everyone is checked for a boarding pass, because if you don't have one, you're not travelling on an aeroplane and therefore have no reason to go through to 'airside' (read able to board an aircraft) or be checked (which would seem to be a phenominal waste of the secuity peoples time and energy).

(Excluding crew and those with outher legitimate reasons to go through etc).

In fact, even if you don't go through security as such (to the commuter aircraft and GA area) you still need to present a boarding pass.

MDA is correct, no need for a boarding pass to get through security.

I imagine it would be possible in the right circumstances to get past the gate staff without a boarding pass, (gate person sorting out an issue with another pax), but highly unlikely it would go unnoticed, as this occasion proves.

Have to agree, a storm in a tea cup.

I would go as far to say there was no security breach, the system worked.

In fact, even if you don't go through security as such (to the commuter aircraft and GA area) you still need to present a boarding pass.
No boarding pass the be in the commuter GA areas either. You need one to get out the gate but not to sit and wait.

There's no requirement to have a boarding pass to enter the domestic departures lounge in Aus.

Beat up. Woman has no suspicious or dangerous items on her person (passes through security screening...), waltzes straight past check-in chick at the gate, waltzes past hostie at the door, parks her carcass in 1A and promptly gets removed from said seat by security. Only story here is the mental state of the woman.

If she had gone straight to the Flight Deck, no one would have noticed!
