Another reason to fly Virgin

Two-year-old booted off jet for losing his shoes | News.com.au

This story highlights another difference between Virgin and Jetstar.

If she wanted to fly without shoes they should have booked with JQ...

Who bites first? The JQ mob or the mods...

This is a ludicrous situation.

Wearing shoes is not a prerequisite for using an escape slide, in fact high heeled shoes are not permitted!

The removal of shoes is encouraged by the supply of disposable socks!

Passengers are permitted to walkabout the cabin wearing socks!

I'd be suing the airline too!

Who said anything about slides?

It's about what you are going to do when you have your hands full and you are boarding with 3 kids via stairs on a hot day. Id like to see you carry all three when the apron is bubbling!

Why do we have cabin baggage limits? We get told to leave everything behind when we use the slides. We should be able to do as we please then sue later!

Go right ahead though, sue all you like, I'm sure there will be some some dozy lefty that will further add to the braindead "if there is no sign, I can do it" culture.
I mean why bother having conditions of travel?

I supose you will be suing the bar owner who wont let you in without shoes in just your footy shorts and a singlet??

That news article contradicts itself

Virgin Australia then agreed to put the family on another flight for no extra charge after finding a pair of shoes in lost property.
Ms Darley wants a refund from Virgin Australia for the $817.50 cost of the second flight - plus the $406.50 paid for the first flight.
So which one was it??
$800 is a tad steep for what happened.

So they moved her onto the next flight for free, she missed it. Tell her to harden up and learn the rules. She was lucky she was offered that flight for free, no other airline would do that. She made 2 mistakes and expects the airline to pay for it? Sheez

Well, she was offered a replacement - and then apparently was either late, or just decided not to show up. Then it seems she had to buy another fare...

I have some, but very little sympathy. Yes it would be hard to do that journey with two young kids, but staff cannot put their necks on the line and ignore rules, whether they are from CASA or simple company policy. They tried to help her, but at the end of the day it seems to me she has the whole "it's someone else's fault, I want compensation, poor bugger me, I'm a mum poor me, the big bad world is mean to me and my darling children" attitude.

Ha ha, on to more important matters... QF threads

In macair we had A4 sheets that had a thong in them for this very purpose. Push out the thong shape. Fold a strip over for the toe strap and presto you have a thong and our pax can now travel.

Half the aboriginal passengers in the topend are barefoot....and on RPT services.

In fact, by the look of some of those feet, I don't think they have ever seen a shoe of any kind!

There is no CASA regulation forcing pax to wear shoes.

However, it may be in a company ops manual in which case it is mandatory for the airline to enforce it otherwise they are potentially operating outside their approved sops.

Apparently was a court case brought against an airline years ago by an Aboriginal person when he was booted off for not wearing shoes.

He lost. Whilst it is not a regulation, the court case outcome was that an airline may stipulate requirements for people on board the aircraft, and that decision is final.

It is highly likely that the RPT airlines in the topend do not stipulate shoes.

I'm happy for people not to wear suitable footwear on aircraft.
As long as I get to enjoy them running over shards of glass, broken strips of aluminium and fires in the unlikely event of an accident.
There are some elements in society we would be better without.
The type who are suing for anything are at the top of that list

From the CASA website... Advice to air travellers.

Footwear

The most common injuries to feet during accidents or emergencies can be prevented by wearing suitable footwear. Wearing fully enclosed leather low-heeled laced or buckled shoes, boots or tennis shoes is recommended. Avoid sandals and high heeled dress shoes. Keep your footwear on during the flight. In an emergency finding your shoes will probably be one of the last things on your mind. High heeled dress shoes will have to be removed before using the escape slide. Unprotected feet can slow departure from the airplane once outside. Imagine trying to walk through jet fuel, possibly on fire, broken glass, or sharp metal fragments without shoes to protect your feet.
Takes a brave operator to go against the regulators advice. In the "regs" or not.
