Norfolk Air Tender

Norfolk Air Tender
Talking with a few mates last night over Beer/BBQ - apparently Norfolk Island is putting the air service out to tender - quick google search confirmed it's true.
The 'rumour' is Norfolk Air (as it is) to be gone within 6months, and that Jetstar is 'interested'.
I would have thought a daily BNE-NLK service on a F70 (codesharing with QF or DJ) or a DJ EMB190 would work - so long as there was connections offered.
Anyone know more?

Typically yes (just), but if there's going to be weather at either end, payload gets the arse for fuel. So whether this makes economic sense for management to persue the tender, who knows.

EDTO problems?????
I don't recall Enie Wenie airlines F28s/F27s being EDTO and they made it out there for years.
But I guess they could use Lord Howe so no need for EDTO. They just need clever route planning and a bit more fuel for B717 or EDTO certification if there was money in the route.

That exemption does not apply to the 717, and from what I can gather, the current EDTO rules apply to all aircraft, not just "newies".
Sorry for the smart-arse Ledsled-type answer; at least I gave the reference!

That's correct, Blogs. The previous 'Grandfather' rule was 90mins @ 2 engine cruise from an Adequate airport. Ansett applied this on their F28s and also on the B767's. The later would have given them some advantage over QF who would have had to operate their 76's on the old ETOPS rule and use 60 min SE Crz as the Threshold Distance.
Ozjet operated to NLK Island non-ETOPS but had an area of operation set at 60 SE Crz which was 385 Nm. This meant that the flight out of SYD and NTL had to follow the coast North- bound before turning East for NLK, so as to remain within the allowable aera of operation. The guys who used to get re-clearance when airbourne out of SYD via LH were being very 'naughty'
