Anyway according to AusTender website its official that the Norfolk Island Air Tender is up for grabs - Three year contract is on offer.

Run down is of the following:
Will provide passenger and freight connections necessary to Norfolk Island. Services to and from mainland Australia to Norfolk Island need to be regular (on a minimum three times a week) and accommodate both passenger and freight requirements The preferred route Air Services Norfolk island should include originating from at least two east coast ports (ie Sydney, Brisbane).
Should provide a Business Development Plan, incorporating a strategy to grow the market by capitalising on Norfolk Island’s tourism potential.
Have the capacity to offer 6 tonnes outbound freight per week

No where that I can find states that the aircraft to service these routes need to be an 737?

So who will win?

- Strategic? A320
- Our Airline? B737
- Cobham? BAe/RJ
- Alliance? FK70/100
- Qantas? B717/B737
- Virgin Australia? E190/B737

You haven't read the document too well, S320. The answer is within the specifications if you read it in context.

Incidentally, you forgot Jetstar/A319/20/21.

Yes I have forgot Jet*

And yes... along the lines of "Cheap Affordable travel and to promote Norfolk Island as a destination"

What's stopping the likes of Virgin or Strategfic doing it?

Strategic/Cobham/Alliance/Our Airline - not in the race. Read the finer points.

Any word of who won the tender?

Be a shame of it going to an existing carrier and to loose Norfolk air as it has a very distinctive livery. But if it saves the government money well that would be their plan anyway.

Can anybody confirm that the WA based SkyWest Airlines was the successful bidder to operate RPT's movements between Aussie & Norfolk Island ? Rumour also has them code sharing with Virgin & leasing a 737 from them as well ?? Can anybody confirm !??

Why lease a 737 when they already have A320's? Another type to go on the AOC. Plus check and training hassles it don't make sense.

Well - they were talking about getting an additional A320. Wouldn't be too hard to rotate it through Mel from Kalgoorlie

QF are flogging off -400's at the moment, and I seem to recall someone else's -200's sitting up the back of PH looking very idle a while back

Still, given how long it took XR to get the A320 online I doubt they'd get a 737 onto the AOC in any hurry even if they wanted to.

I think porch monkey was saying Virgin Australia don't have many spare 737's.

It's not unusual for a tender process to overrun a deadline date. Due diligence the old six " P's " can save mega bucks.

Air New Zealand have won the contract using their A320s - four times a week from SYD and BNE.
