Teresa,
As usual you are absolutely correct.

Why is it that if you are in Exec ranks there is no problem with overselling abilities but for the average tech crew they are so caught up in "the dream" they undersell themselves as a group.

The mere fact that there is so much talk about "bus drivers" and "being overpaid" tells me that u guys just dont get it.

You have so much to tell and yes the average joe public will care when it counts, so get out there, get the message and show that you actually value yourselves and your acquired skills and the rest will follow.

Execs have not put in nearly as many hard yards as you guys and have no problems with spin even when everything else is falling apart. You need to get with the game.

The fact that the Rat paid their chief risk officer $1.2m pa should say it all when you stack up credentials and hard yards.

Stop pussy footing around for all of our sakes.

Those in heavy turbulence are outnumbered by the price point punters by about 50000 to 1.

Millions fly around the world everyday mate. They all enjoy breathing. They all remember that time that they thought it might not be for much longer. Except for you. What more do you want to build on?

You ever watch 'Air Crash' on a Saturday night?? (Oz) It's in lay terms, and some of it cringe worthy, but mostly paints tech crew as doing the best they can with what they have....as mentioned elsewhere you will not gain support from 'Joe & Sue Bloggs' who actually do work much longer than you at jobs they despise, to earn less than minimum wage.....and yes it so transpires they know not to what diminishing levels of safety they expose themselves to BUT, hundreds of thousands of them fly mostly all incident free all over for a long time....

Ask yourself what sort of satisfaction is there to be had, hand flying an approach to minimums, versus turning up to the same ole same ole job everyday, and then start to think how many would love the chance (look to the 'shiny jet' syndrome, for a clue), would love the chance to do what you do???

I know as many who slaved their guts out as did those who were virtually gifted flying jobs, but you think you'll ever get support from a public, who deeply suspect you actually enjoy going to work? None of you leave......and in fact a great many people would love to have had the opportunity to have even come close to half the training you guys were privy to.....ever suspect they never had the opportunity's that you had???

I'm incredibly humbly grateful to be able to just get a fly in.....far far from making a living out of it............but get real about thinking the public will support you, and get real about the press giving you a chance....and the silver budgie was no help to you back in the year we cannot mention, don't think Mr Abbott won't be looking to 'endorse' foreign pilots on a revamped Work Choices scheme either......

A lot of those punters have regularly flown (insert any 3rd world airline) and have came out unscathed....they simply will not find you remarkable....and when the much feared and often termed 'smoking hole' in the ground (and pray us all it doesn't) occurs, where does the QF tech crew infallibilty lie???

Public support is like Managerial understanding....ain't going to happen!!!

Well said that man!

It's not rocket science. It ain't really that hard folks, and you know it. We have procedures to make sure we don't have to think. It's a robotic job and we do the same thing every damn day. I find it so ridiculous when pilots tell others about how hard their job is, and that we pilots have the pax lives in our hands

I fly my cockpit (and thus myself) from A to B. The fact that a few lucky punters managed to get past the rent-a-cops and strap them selves in behind me doesn't interest me one bit. I really couldn't give a damn.

I'm thinking about which beach I'm going to on my layover..... and how many beers I can book up to my expenses with out the accountants noticing

Two-faced bastards, the Oz public and its journos in particular.

If a planeload of bums are saved the pilot is a hero, toast of the town.
If he sticks his hand out for a minor pay rise he's nothing but a greedy
overpaid bus driver.

You can't eliminate a six decade long "cutting-down-tall-poppies"
syndrome from 20 odd million yobbos overnight, made even worse
these days with the socialist ALP brainwashing machine working
overtime.

Waste of time doing any ads for em.

I must send him some flowers
I heard he's in pain which is rather good to hear - I hope this time
when they open him up on the table they'll forget to sew him back
up again.

Once that pr!ck starts rotting in the dirt only Kelty will be left of the
original menage-a-trois won't it?

Last night (Thursday) the ABC TV news (why am I not surprised) gleefully reported that the so-and-so was out of hospital, with footage.

I don't wish this on many people, but I wish him a speedy relapse.
