The five year view is the most amazing:

Charting - Australian Securities Exchange - ASX

It would be interesting to chart the major management events on the time line next to any major value changes.......

Wrong Phyco Joe, the Libs will read the wind, and do what they perceive is the best for the govt, followed by the country, followed by the airline. When Dixon tried to flog QF to Mac Bank, Costello said they were not interested, bull**** they weren't they were watching carefully for voter backlash, if it had been severe they were more than interested. Soup Nazi, the same people who are punting money into car manufacturing, the govt. 36,000 jobs, fella's think about it for a moment. NO govt. is game enough to let that happen, none. No my mate is not Barnaby Joyce, he is a fairly quiet but astute sort of bugger, and will do well in the Abbott govt. He has a soft spot for QF and aviation, holds a private unrestricted license, and is no fool. Nationalisation is a long bow, but like the car industry, QF is one company they can ill afford to let go. He is talking no bull****, as I said, nobody wants QF carking it on their watch, it would absolutely screw them, his words, not mine.

Fund managers are locked in to certain requirements that don't allow them to hold a stock if it drops by a certain % , this may explain some heavy selling at these low prices ?

Why all the doom and gloom.
Qantas is still making a profit.
The profit they make is merely a drop in the bucket in comparison to the mountain of debt.

It made 40 million last 1/2 year. Has borrowed 600 million to fund operating costs instead of paying down debt, instead it just racks up even more.

If it was losing billions a year i could see a reason for it to fold and the goverment coming to the
A billion dollars was wiped off the value off the company in just a matter of a few DAYS. With the share price withering away it loses the ability to be bailed out which means only one thing can happen.

So does anyone have any ideas about when the overlords will climb down from their ivory towers to address the mere mortals who comprise their employees and shareholders?

After a billion dollar wipeout in a week ASIC should be asking some serious questions. Are this mob fit to run a publicly listed company? Have they failed in their duty of continuous disclosure? Idiots.

Look back to the very first post in this thread, pretty much exactly twelve months ago.

In twelve months the value of the QF group has exactly halved, well done !!!!!!.

I'm glad I don't work for Qantas.

The problems and the share price are going to get worse im afraid. Will the market capitalisation fall to a level where a) the interest rate on their loans increases and b) the instos have to sell because the market value is below the minimum they are allowed to invest in. c) If a capital raising is required (highly likely in my opinion) then it would have to be pitched at 40/50 cents to be successfull, the result of this would be the share price will slide further to maybe 75 cents. Now i havnt touched on writedowns, but if someone was to decide that Jetstar Pacific and Asia wernt worth what their carried at then a hefty writedown would occur and down goes the share price. I hate to be a pessimist about this but if the same team of management continue in the same direction then a train wreck is coming. Lastly, i wonder if this was why Bruce left Jetstar?

Remember back to the last AGM, when Linda White asked of Clifford, his relationship with KKR? His reply, “It keeps me in touch with the cost of debt”.

Well Cliffy, that was a load of BS, but since you mentioned it, you can start making some legitimate enquiries.

We can help you Alan, but there will be a need for you to listen.
One of the most significant statements made.

Any pollies listening? Please HELP. Rid us of these greedy, lowlife clowns.

already big news in the UK....

Qantas shares fall below A$1 for first time on S&P warning - Telegraph

S&P said that if the airline's international business does not improve earnings in a reasonable timeframe, Qantas' risk profile would weaken.

"In our view, Qantas' international operations are a key factor to the group's long-term competitiveness," S&P credit analyst May Zhong said in a statement.

The shares fell 8.7pc to 97 cents at 06.50am (UK time)
It's going to be a long weekend for LC & Co me thinks...

A lot has happened since this story went to air on the 5th.... who would have thought....

I think its time we put the TSV refueller in charge. As long as I can remember they were a source of info, intelligence, and bull****. In fact what we enjoyed was to feed the TSV mob some crap, and see if we could beat it to MEL, we seldom did, and it was never in the same form as we had told them. They have the makings of a true CEO.

So is .97 cents recoverable and who has been buying?

Ben sums it up quite nicely:

Qantas closes at 97 cents under massive trading | Plane Talking

......so will we be digging a big pit come Tuesday...or will we see a revival of the 'boxing kangaroo'!
