Dixon,

Maybe you should send that email to Ms Zhong to ASIC.

The ratings agencies are firmly in the worldwide regulatory sites after the GFC fiascos.

Step up the pressure and don't let go until someone takes notice of the bleeding obvious.

AA are heading south as well:

THE stock of American Airlines parent company AMR Corp tumbled overnight, at one point falling nearly 40 per cent, on renewed concerns the carrier could be headed for bankruptcy protection.

This comes as ACCC last week approved Qantas Airways' proposed alliance with American Airlines on trans-Pacific routes.

Shares in AMR Corp lost US84 cents (88 cents), or 28 per cent, to trade around $US2.12 in early afternoon trade after plummeting to their lowest point in eight years. The stock has not closed below $US2 since 2003.

A major airline trade group, The International Air Transport Association, said the industry may be headed for a downturn. American Airlines is considered to be in the most vulnerable financial position of major US carriers.

Morningstar analyst Basili Alukos said he believes AMR implemented "its last-ditch effort to return to profitability" when it spun-off its regional carrier and said it would place a record order to buy 460 planes to quickly address its aging fleet.

American Airlines is the only major airline that has not filed for bankruptcy protection in the past decade, leaving it saddled with higher costs for everything from labour to financing. American is the only major airline that has lost money this year.

Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR lost $US286 million ($297 million) in the second quarter alone.

I predict the share prices busting the $1.00 mark by Xmas.

Baggage handlers playing for keeps, Long haul pilots marching to war, Domestic pilots EBA not far off, the link dash pilots winding up for a corporate size kick in the stones, ALEA playing a very smart and hard game, so how else can it possibly proceed ?.

Speculation has grown about the likelihood of a takeover of Qantas, especially with the company holding nearly $3.5 billion in cash on its balance sheet, which exceeds the company's current market worth.
Qantas Airways shares have fallen 46 percent this year to a record low of A$1.37, opening the door for an investor to pursue a "destabilisation strategy" by building a holding and urging the airline to sell off assets. Andrew Sisson, whose Balanced Equity Management owns just under 10 percent of the carrier, said he could not see an "obvious potential buyer" at present, adding that an ongoing pay dispute would need to be resolved for the share price to recover.

If the grounding is still going on Monday - what will Qantas open at???? Wouldn't want to be long over this weekend if it all ends badly.

I'm going for 0.80c and falling.

qantas to fall 15% min

And virgin to jump 10%

Wonder if Twiggy or Cliff have enough spare cash to buy it out on Monday night? Surely they need to move some workers around... FIFO in an a380. Or Murdoch can fly his papers around... Singapore airlines can throw some cash to Tiger and buy them out... Tiggy Qantas... Or Twiggy Qantas!

With $3.5b in the bank just chuck them $1.50 a share and buy them out...
Or at least controlling rights. Fix everything up and then offer up to a private equity mob when it gets to $3.00 a share...

Surely someone is going to step in with the big bucks soon?

Agree with QF1. We are in conspiracy territory now. There is no possible way that Joyce could have done this without detailed discussion with the Qantas Board. The contempt for the traveling public is breathtaking.

Its not war on employees, it's war on small shareholders who aren't in on the deal. I wonder who the beneficial owners of the bulk of the shares are?

This will be a perfect hedge if it stays open.

The shorters will be out in big numbers and I dare say some speculators will be loading up big in hope for a takeover, shareholders will be in for a roller coaster ride but there will be plenty of money to be made if you have the kahones.

I for one won't be participating.... my gold stocks are doing too well anyway

QF1
The only obvious means where a profit will occur is by shorting the stock, and such an activity by officers of the company would be a "go-to-jail" end result.

Mind you, people are clever primates, and perhaps they have alternative rat cunning means to profit. (I however do not see that as an outcome)

"plans do not survive contact with the enemy..."

On another note, please Mr Joyce, can you spend some of your new found wealth (or some of your older earnings from your period with pornstar), on

1. 'Ellokushin lessin'
2. Orthodontic work.

(you are well at risk of periodontal disease, gigivitis etc, and given the likelihood of having to endure insufferable images of your visage on the media, that would be appreciated).

QFA needs to change, that is quite true, as a direct consequence of arbitrage occasioned by open skies, but your rehashing the failed formulaic solution of Jetstar "In-Asia" is just a little loopy. If your experiment had been successful, t'ere would have been rational grounds to justify that position, but, it 'twazzn't, 'twazzit. T'was an unmitigated shambles 'tis. 'Tis dat!

Review:

- Earnings for Jetstar Pacific?
- Ownership of Jetstar Pacific?
- Number of Jetstar Pacific managers arrested? (mainline managers are up there too of course, how about number of managers who have been involved in criminal activity associated with price fixing...)

Does anyone really believe (other than you and Olivia) that Singair, the Singapore Govt, MAS, the Malaysian Govt will allow a foreign entity to enter their airspace and siphon profits from their national carriers to the Ferringhi's? The ownership laws of any such program will always be in favor of local ownership, as in 'stralia, and following Jetstar Pacific's plight resulting from the ownership mix should be a warning that you are about to lose your shirt, your investors money, and destroy QFA.

short on monday.

tight stops.

money for jam.

that little leprechaun is not only an idiot, but an insane idiot.

an unprecedented over-reaction.

he will be mocked the world over, a yoke he richly deserves.

ps: i'd imagine they will ask for a trading halt on monday. so no new transactions, buying or selling. this is can be expected, but it is by no means certain. we'll see monday morning. how can the stock trade? the airline has grounded itself! certifiably insane behavior. but it is what it is. trade what you see....

Time series plots of Qantas share value.

If you have a look at

QAN.AX Basic Chart | QANTAS FPO Stock - Yahoo!7 Finance

you can plot the time series of the Qantas shares QAN.AX versus the All Ordinaries. Using a Jan 1, 2007 base, we see that as time went on:

* from Jan 07 to Jan 08, Qantas shares grew in value more rapidly for most of the year then slid back to par at early Jan 08
* after Feb 08 the the Qantas share price slowly but surely dived by comparison to the All Ordinaries, growing steadily weaker over the last 3 years, indicating that the Qantas share price was falling faster than the average Aussie share price.
* As from today 1 Nov the Qantas share price is now ~40% weaker compared to its relative value to the All Ords back in Jan 07 or Feb 08.

In response to a question about his remuneration, AJ responded to Alan Kohler (Inside Business Ch 2, Sunday morn) that it was based on relative share prices etc..... So if a 40% weakening Qantas share price gives AJ such a bonus, what would he have earned if the qantas share price had stayed on par with the All Ords in comparative value?

$1.63 1-11-2011

I think you'll find the institutional shareholders have bought up big since the A.G.M. thereby backing up their ridiculous support of QF, LC,and AJ for a huge profit in the end.

We'll see how the price is in a weeks time when it all plays out in parliament.

Look at the september traffic figures just released on the ASX.

Revenue seat factor Qantas International was higher than Jetstar International. Jetstar actually went backwards 4.2% from same time last year.

October figures will be very different...
