Griffin one, would you care to comment on Spanner's post above?

Anyone else hear Olivia Wirth's comments yesterday that these fuel claims were non-sense and just part of the IR stone throwing going on? Tried to find a link on the net but couldn't.

Spanner Turner, awesome. Thanks for the info. I guess it's like the supposed potential ditching in WA that crops up every couple of years on PPRUNE. A combination of a half story with some tall poppy syndrome.

the fact remains that the crew failed to notate the suspected heavy landing in the tech log until airborne from nandi onroute mel,
Spanner turner, You are correct suspected wheel crack. you will find the wheel was removed mel but if an engineer had inspected prior to departure nandi then it should have also been removed prior to further flight.
Shall we remove engineers from every station and allow defects to be entered at the end of the flying day?

Griffin, tech stops are permitted at ports without aircraft-qualified LAME support under specified circumstances. They are also then permitted to depart under specified circumstances. Permitted by the manufacturer, the regulator and the airline.

On occasions where those circumstances are not met, a LAME must be sent to the port. No QF pilot would ever depart unless those circumstances were met, nor if they had any doubt as to the servicability of the aircraft.

It is very easy for the Captain to jump on the phone to Qantas and say "send a LAME, we'll be at the hotel. Let us know when the aircraft is ready." And from time to time, that happens. It's just one of the many facts of life of running an airline. Risk management.

There are also several Australian RPT ports served by QF and other airlines with no LAME support. Same situation applies.

End of story. Get over it.

... until airborne from nandi onroute mel
Nandi is a very small town in Queensland and doesn't have an airport, hence you are making all that up.
Nandi, Australia

Actually here is the link you are looking for: http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2011/s3222318.htm

SIMON SANTOW: "Are there bar charts that are circulated amongst pilots that show who took what, when and who didn't need to take it?"

OLIVIA WIRTH: "Absolutely not."

Oh you go get 'em Olivia! For whatever reason, Olivia is not telling the truth here (yet again).

If Olivia isn't very, very careful, I'm sure some guys will start faxing their fuel uplift graphs to the media! Although as one pointed out, she might be trying to get off on a technicality because they're not formatted as "bar charts"!
