Coral Sun Airways, Tarawa, Kiribati.
Understand Coral Sun Airways based in Tarawa, Kiribati, is planning services to do Tarawa/Kiritimati (Christmas Island) /Kanton/Honolulu.
Any idea of proposed start-up date, frequency of operation and type of aircraft? Currently I believe the operator has only three Islanders.

Two Islanders and an Aztec, actually.
No, it wasn't a heavy landing.
Yes, it's a looooong way ................................... if you tried using that type of equipment.

Its been done before - almost.
Air Kiribati wanted to send a pilot to operate a BN2 between Christmas and Fanning atolls. I was in a group of five at the time based on Tarawa. A volunteer was needed so four of us stepped backwards, leaving the new bloke to ferry the aircraft over.
Eventually, the Islander was replaced with a C212 and from memory the operation lasted about a year. Long time ago so I'm a bit vague on the exact details.

A37575 - the Aztec you saw parked over near the fuel depot was actually ferried from Honiara, where it had been rebuilt, well over 5 or 6 years ago. It ferried via Nauru where it nearly got stuck because no-one had checked to see if there was any avgas available. Eventually some out-of-date stock was found, the Aztec fuelled and got to Tarawa without any further to do. It was owned in the Solomons by the SDA's and did minimal flying in the Kiribati before being parked. That aircraft is now derelict and remains parked where you last saw it.
There is another Aztec there now for Coral Sun and this particular one was ferried from the USA.

BN2AMkIII-2 TRISLANDER for Kiribati
Hi
I am Looking for Jeff Jong of Coral Sun Airways in Kiribati,
We have a Low Time Trislander he may be interested in and It was my understanding that there were tow over there in the past that did very well in the remote conditions, with no hills to bump in to and a 3 engine to get home on if one stops !
Jeff can E-mail me on [email protected]
