Anyone heard yet who's AOC these 330's are going to fly under? I was given to understand it would depend on the Singapore regulatory approvals process and the routes they would allow. I assume there would be ink and signatures on paper by now?

Rumour also is that the flying will be done on a "US Dollar" contract and that there would be "opportunities" for Jetstar Australia pilots. This implies the flying will not go to either of the existing JQ Australia or JQ Asia contracts. It also further suggests the offer will be lower than both of them. Buchanan clearly thinks there are enough 330 guys out there that will take it.

Almost right Waren, enough 'wannabe' 330 pilots is correct.

What will the wannabe's do when they realise they've spread the undercutting cancer to the last bastion of well paid airline jobs (wide body Captain)- perhaps a low ball offer to Nasa?

I wonder how they'll reflect on their careers at age 70- with pride or the realisation that they've made a career out of undermining the profession. Frankly I'd rather retire as a proud A320 Captain than as a spineless 330 Captain.

Buchanan is simply feeding off the ugly nature of his employees and can't really be blamed for it.

Waren,

I guess a related question is whether the aircraft operating from Singapore up to southern Europe will be VH- or 9V- registered.

Buchanan's comment:
"Southern Europe offered an attractive market and no one else was really serving that market."
What, so those Emirates, Singapore, Cathay, Malaysian, Korean, Thai, Qatar, Air China, China Air, etc. tails one sees daily at various southern European airfields such as Rome, Madrid, Athens, etc. are not actually there?!

'autobk4' God I had to laugh re yr car washing min req's!

I guess 'keenness' by these young whipper snappers is alive & well but like a few have said here at what cost? Still it's a different beast now aviation even the planes have little in common re avionics these days to planes of yesteryear. A career path in flying now is simply done a different way, progress??? Well that's a whole udder story!
Those of us who came up thru the ranks of hard knocks where at 500 hrs you'd be lucky to get a C210 job up Nth & to fly a jet? Well passes in Space shuttle theory & about a zillion hrs all TWIN in CMD (& you had to know someone in the Airline to help) & even then you sat quietly in the R/H seat of an F27 for a 100 yrs then over to skipper on the noisy 'dart' machine then back to R/H seat on a '9' for another 100 yrs then skipper where you stayed there & retired flying 1 sector a day!!!!!!...........yep the good 'ole days

A crystal ball about now would be handy to see where J* will be in say 5 years time,in fact All the carriers!

Yes, every one of which offering a, "Premium Service"..........

Lucky for Qantas shareholders that those running Jetstar really are the smartest guys in the room.

Given Jetstar's outstanding success on the Japan run, flying it into the Southern European market can't possibly fail.

My guess is that QF Management are concerned about the inroads being made by Air Asia and the Middle East carriers, hence the decision to commence with the A330 rather than wait for the B787.

I assume Air Service Agreements will determine if the services are seen as Jetstar (Australia) or Jetstar (Asia).

Unfortunately if it's an international contract then there is not much you can do about it. Once things go to that stage then you are not going to stop the downward spiral. There are to many people from to many third world/war torn/bankrupted countries that a job in Singapore on a 330 is far and away better than anything they will get in their country. And here in lies the problem. They are going to look back at 70 and say well I got out of x country my kids got a good education and I can get by. That's what you're competing against once recruiting goes global.

$$$

Airtags,
JQ Execs in various forms in SIN over the last two weeks having various meetings re the SIN base.
Very true my learned freind.
JQ also appointed the former JQ NZ Ground Operations Manager, a former baggage handler, as the COO for JQ Asia ! I heard he is paid half of what the other two were getting paid combined.Because QF has 'sidelined' (well the Vietnamese government did ) the two naughty QF kiddies who were running the show up there, they also get to save on executive salaries. A double bonus ?

You are right Neville, I suspect Outtahere was referring to the long line of Jq Oz pilots willing to go to Singapore.

I guess with an 'international' contract they'll have to expect 'international' standards- another dent in the QF group reputation.

Outtahere

I may have the wrong context here but.

"I wonder how they'll reflect on their careers at age 70- with pride or the realisation that they've made a career out of undermining the profession. Frankly I'd rather retire as a proud A320 Captain than as a spineless 330 Captain."

Surely you are not refering to a Jetstar A320 captain?

Ahhh, 500 hours instructing. And wondering why we can't get hired by an airline.

Do yourself and your future colleages a favour and go out and get some REAL experience. Don't take the easy road.

Ironbar, by the way the Jq flight crew hang their heads & avert the looks of other crew as they walk the terminals, apparantly not too many 'proud' A320 Captains exist.

Its not really a job anyone aspires to.
