Jetstar cancer continues.

Qantas subsidiary Jetstar plans to fly long-haul from Singapore Bill Lindsay From: Dow Jones Newswires May 12, 2010 4:25PM Increase Text JETSTAR, the discount carrier of Qantas Airways, today said it planned to commence long-haul flights from its major Asian hub in Singapore to Australia, north Asia and possibly European destinations by the end of this year.
The airline said in a statement that it will operate two wide-bodied Airbus A330-200 aircraft at Changi Airport and hopes to soon launch pre-flight sales once arrangements with several destination airports are finalised.

Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan said the arrangements will see the airline create up to 200 new aviation jobs across its growing pan-Asian network, including pilots, cabin crew, engineers and customer service staff.

The discount carrier already flies A330 aircraft to six major Asia-Pacific tourist destinations from Australia, and through its Singapore-based affiliate Jetstar Asia flies narrow bodied A320 aircraft to more than 20 destinations from Singapore.

:ugh:Wake up everyone. Or perhaps shut the gate, the horse has bolted. On yer Jetstar!:D:yuk::=:ugh:

This is just the beggining....

Long John Silver 12th May 2010 10:10

I assume the A330's will be crewed by jetstar asia pilots? More jobs overseas?..

otto the grot 12th May 2010 10:27

So will SIA finally throw some 330s TTs way too head em off at the pass?

Iron Bar 12th May 2010 11:28

My heart bleeds

Wouldn't you just hate to be undercut by Jestar asia!!!! Nice irony. That pesky mou is not much chop either. How dare those mainline pilots.

But don't worry The 787 wet lease to Qantas will keep you all happy. :ok:

Dash1 12th May 2010 11:53

How about Jet Cancer. Skiing NZ this year? Aug 12 QF 141 Syd-Akl on the QF bookings website is an A330-200 operated by Jetconnect. When and where did NZ crew start doing their A330 training? What are they being charged for an endorsement?

Jetstar takes major step towards Europe with Singapore hub

CRAIG PLATT
May 12, 2010
Budget airline Jetstar has taken a major step towards low-cost flights to
Europe with the announcement it will begin long-haul routes from a new base in Singapore later this year.

The Qantas no-frills offshoot will become the first long-haul budget carrier to operate out of the city-state when it receives the first of two new Airbus A330-200 aircraft in December.

Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan said the airline's first routes out of Singapore would be announced in coming weeks and would either be into Australia, northern Asia or Europe - most likely Rome or Athens.

Rome and Athens were selected by a combination of market opportunities and the capabilities of the A330 aircraft, Mr Buchanan said.

"With A330s, if we were to go into northern Europe we would suffer a significant payload restriction ... and Qantas already serves London quite extensively," he said.

"Southern Europe offered an attractive market and no one else was really serving that market."

Mr Buchanan said the airline would employ up to 200 new staff to be based at the Singapore hub.

Jetstar has 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order, some of which are also likely to be based in Singapore.

Mr Buchanan said the longer range of the Dreamliner would deliver opportunities for more destinations and bases, including other parts of Europe.

They will be crewed by whoever wants to sign up.

More jobs overseas?..
You're on to it.

dodgybrothers 12th May 2010 12:23

maybe the casa investigators who are currently cutting a swathe through the place may have a thing or two to say about going into europe especially the way jq goes about its 320 ops into asia. Not a done deal yet....

JQ Execs in various forms in SIN over the last two weeks having various meetings re the SIN base.

......seems the child is certainly selling out the farm from under the parent .......just hope the off balance sheet carriage by QF (inc some start up costs still on the QF ledger) is mitigated so the 10/11 profit comparisions are on a level foundation.

footnote: JQ Exec's did however choose to stay consistent with expectations and chose to use QF9 & QF31...something to do with a first class seat I think.....

If it is Jetstar Asia where do they plan to get all the pilots from? Given that most Asian airlines pay for the ENTIRE cost of training what's the go with Jetstar Asia?

That is because they are employees of QF, not JQ. You think they were silly enough to be employed directly by JQ? No way!

Compylot 12th May 2010 15:26

Hi,

Where would one apply for a job with Jetstar in singapore? (through Jetstar Australia?)

How many hours would one need to get a job on the A330 as a cruise FO?

Unfortunately I recently just missed out for a position as a cruise FO for V Australia (apparently I wasn't competitive enough though I do have over 500 hours instructing experience )

This new Jetstar venture sounds very exciting and will provide opportunities for many hoping to get a leg up!

If anyone could PM me with any details it would be much appreciated in advance :ok:

Kind Regards

It irks me even more when JQ flight attendants on duty travel on QF international flights like QF001 get a higher upgrade priority than QF staff travelling on leisure :yuk:

Jetstar Asia pilots are actually better paid than the australian counterparts. Rumours around the place suggest that several positions will be available to Jetstar Oz guys who want to go on leave without pay for a couple of years. Lot's of interest as it will be something of a change for a bit along with better money. Should be interesting.

LOL!

Thanks for giving me a laugh and cheering me up this morning!

AoA

therein lies the problem we all face.

500hrs and can't wait to "sell their souls".

Exactly why we are in situation we are in now.

metrosmoker 12th May 2010 23:11

Whilst this development is of no surprise, Bruce Buchanan`s attitude is I guess not either. Just now cemented.
A few weeks ago Bruce sat with the JPA and claimed he had no idea, and no idea why morale was so low within the pilot body. He also stated that no decision had been made as to where these aircraft would be deployed. Yet just 3 weeks later he his happy and proud to make this big announcement!

I had given 'REG' the benefit of the little bit of doubt there was.
At least Joyce`y had the guts to stab us in the front.

Autobrakes4 13th May 2010 00:06

Wow, 500 hours instructing experience. You should be a 747 Captain.

You are kidding aren't you. With 500 hours instructing experience, I wouldn't let you wash my car. :ugh:

It's a good point you make Normasars. With an attitude like that, and a system that we have trying to constantly undermine the job with ridiculous pay rates, we are buggered. Gen Y + today's airline management = up s&#t creek for pilots.

I would never encourage any (future) son/daughter of mine to go into aviation. By then it will be totally fcuked. :{

Di_Vosh 13th May 2010 00:29

Pretty certain that Compylot is a troll. :ok:

Problem is, is that there are plenty of people out there who think like that.
