"Never argue with a fool. Someone watching may not be able to tell the difference"
New Zealand stood by it's commitment to an open skies policy. Lizard Keating promised, then reneged, which is how Air Koru came to be lumbered with the s@#b infested crock of excrement that was Ansett.
I've had the pleasure of working with a fine bunch of 89ers and at the time they thought it was a hell of a joke.

Kanga don't you mean...
"Never argue with an idiot, he'll just wear you down and then beat you with experience"!

Never nice to be down trained but in the current economic climate it is better than not having a job. A novel idea ...if they take leave without pay maybe a stint at J* or PB will be good for their soul
kangaroota I think you are telling half the story.
Air NZ only had the capacity to cherry pick east coast flying and the incumbents warned they would remove services from elsewhere. Government forced direct investment and Air NZ squandered an opportunity.
At least Kiwi business ineptitude didn't kill or poison any babies back then I suppose.
Doesn't matter now anyway.
Amusingly, on travels since Ansett's collapse, many have discovered what a nasty, parochial little group a percentage of NZ pilots can be.
Ansett was full of Kiwis. Many never admitted it amusingly.
Some of that parochial nastiness extended beyond the collapse as well. How many of those Kiwis working at Ansett were accepted in Air NZ's recruiting drive a year or so after? Yes. None.

Every few years the Chinese dairy industry poisons their kids. Doesn't surprise me that Kiwi big business were again investors without due diligence. And quickly wash their hands of any responsibility- backed up by the Clarke government. Wouldn't surprise me either, if the Kiwis didn't pay a cent of compensation- bludgers.
I've had enough of New Zealand parochialism and lack of accountability over the years.

So with your penchant for Kiwi bashing, does your use of the term "parochial nastiness" not strike you as ironic?
Anyhow, can someone please drag this thread back from the aged-Ansett whining back onto the topic?

Not at all. As I age, whining, insipid Kiwi nationalism grates me.
I recall a splintered, hate filled of each other, AIR NZ pilot group pushing for an entire entitlement to the flying of any Air NZ /Ansett expansion.
Under a guise of nationalism, a pilot group that hated each other united. And then I travelled and pockets of absurd Kiwi parochialism existed abroad.
I hope no Air New Zealand pilots get retrenched. Not because I'm a warm hearted fellow but I just couldn't stand them as aviation refugees.

Hey Matty
How many Ansett employees did Air New Zealand employ post the collapse?
How many Chinese babies have Fonterra compensated?
In both incidents of poor corporate responsibility, New Zealand government jumped on a soap box bestowing the virtues of being a New Zealander...
Bludgers.

There are no parallels between Ansett and the Chinese Milk Issue.
Fonterra owned (because sanlu no longer exist) a minority shareholding (42%) and did not have a position on the board. That is why no Fonterra execs are being shot in china. It is therefore understandable that Fonterra did not know what was being put into milk manufactured by a company they owned a minority stake in. Im sure there is more discussion to this effect on the professional dairy farmers rumour website.
Air New Zealand had around 9000 staff when I worked there prior to the purchase of Ansett. After ansett collapsed thay had 14000 staff. I am certain that additional staff were retained by ANZ that were not required.
Fonterra have not compensated any Chinese Families to the best of my knowledge. Why would they. They were a shareholder. If I owned shares in Air New Zealand, should I personally pay the families of those who died in the Erebus accident compensation?
Speaking of nationalism/parochialism there has never been an Australian company that hasnt demonstrated outstanding corporate responsibility. The Australian Banking industry springs to mind, a shining light in the field of ethics and morality.
Get a grip and get back onto the topic of the thread.

Fonterra had 3 directors on the board of San Lu and at least one executive working for San Lu's senior executive team.
Should shareholders be responsible/liable? F$#% yeah, they are the OWNERS after all!

"pockets of absurd Kiwi parochialism existed abroad" Yep, you don't get that sort of carry on where Aussies pilots are gathered....right?
No "inspid whining" either. Anyway, enough of this petty banter, I'm off to make a pavlova, parochialist that I am.
Meanwhile, back on the thread topic.........
