Jetstar - Announcement

Does anyone else get the feeling that there is some sort of announcement coming soon? There are a couple of rumours going around about AVV closing and possible VR offers again?? Any thoughts?

Observations....

- EVERY Domestic QF flight is codeshare with JQ.
- Qantas Domestic Pty Ltd has a contract based on Team Jetstar conditions.
- Joyce has been quoted as wanting SH/Qantas Domestic doing all CityFlyer services and regionals.
- AVV is expensive to use compared to MEL.

So in theory, the new QD staff will be just a expensive as Team JQ FAs? And what does regionals and CityFlyer services have to do with JQ?

Neither of those is true. You have been listening to the ill-informed loafer wearing wannabe mother's club.

Few Qantas domestic services are code-shared with Jetstar. The codeshare flights are open as 'freesale' codeshare to Jetstar customers direct connecting to or from a Jetstar operated international flight. In comparison, almost ALL Jetstar operated flights have a QF code.

Freesale codeshare means that the seat only becomes used by JQ as required. You would be hard pressed to find many JQ customers on any given flight. This information is available on the boarding computer, just by pushing a few buttons.

Originally we could tell which customers were 'sold as JQ'. However the notation was removed due to the unprofessional elitism of our colleagues. (I wish these crew knew how stupid they looked, it was so embarrassing!)

You cannot go on the Jetstar website and book a JQ seat on QF metal, where the QF flight is the only flight booked (ie. QF575/JQ6575 SYD-PER). This is true - try it for yourself. The idea of a pax paying $59 through the JQ website and the next pax paying $219 on the QF website for the same flight is preposterous.

The whole 'Jetstar codeshare' complex is as pathetic as it is elitist.

I am also finding it hard to draw many similarities between the QD contract and the Team JQ contract, apart from the fact they are B-scale. The structure of pay is vastly different, for example.

You may have a few points, but...

- We can't tell how many are JQ or even AA, BA, etc. anymore as it ALWAYS comes up 0 pax on the ALTEA system.

- JQ pax are getting on QF flights by booking it as part of their international travel.

- The demographics are different between QF and JQ! The typical QF FF is very well trained. QF is a PREMIUM (but rapidly declining) product. JQ are good for people who are travelling for the first time flyers, money savy, etc.

Funny story, once a JQ flight had broken down so they had been put on my cityflyer. They stood out, smelt different, spoke different and looked different. Then when it came to beverage time it was:
"i'll have bundy and coke"
"$6 please"
"oh I thought it was free"
"only the premium wine and beers are, spirits are $6"
"oh I'll have 3red's then"

I did 12 sectors last week between BNE, DRW, PER, MEL and SYD. All bar the two BNE-DRW-BNE sectors were codeshare.

I understand every QF domestic service between Bne, Syd and Mel are JQ codeshare. Is that correct?

Thank you for proving my point about elitism. If it wasn't for the sheer number of people like you I would find it hard to believe you work in such a customer-oriented role.

They stood out, smelt different, spoke different and looked different.
How sad that you think that. Though I wish I was there to witness you sniffing at customers. Unless, of course, the above isn't true?

"only the premium wine and beers are, spirits are $6"
"oh I'll have 3red's then"
Are you suggesting that it is only Jetstar customers who are greedy? Greed comes in all different packages. I am sure you would agree that pig-like behaviour can come from the most 'premium' of customers.

I take great delight every time crew make themselves look stupid by complaining about "the Jetstar codeshare customers" when the flight is neither a Jetstar codeshare, nor are we carrying any disrupt Jetstar customers. It happens SO SO often and really is pathetic.

**NEWS FLASH**
Air travel is now available to the masses. It was only two weeks ago it was reported that airfares the lowest they have been in 17 years. EVERYONE can afford to fly - even on Qantas.

Look at all the trouble we have with bogan-like behaviour on Perth flights. Are you suggesting they are all Jetstar customers? Please... I can think of many issues I have had in recent times on non-codeshared flights.

The typical QF FF is very well trained. QF is a PREMIUM (but rapidly declining) product. JQ are good for people who are travelling for the first time flyers, money savy, etc.
That is an over-generalisation, don't you think, CCD?! Jetstar is good for anyone who chooses to fly them. That may even be Platinum and Chairman's Lounge customers, movie stars and who ever else is free to purchase a ticket.

And as far as frequent flyers being well trained - they are the worst. If you want to generalise is it not frequent flyers who present the most issues with excess hand luggage, exit row briefings and lap tops in seat pockets, for example?

JQ pax are getting on QF flights by booking it as part of their international travel.
That is exactly what I was saying. It is in much the same manner that Qantas customers get on Jetstar flights by way of their travel itinerary or frequent flyer redemption.

I won't harp on - I have made my point.

Keg -

In the last seven days I have operated 10 sectors, only two of which had a Jetstar code. I doubt very much the amount of flights you have operated with a JQ code in the last week (which I am not suggesting is not the case) is indicative of the norm.

The amount of flights with a JQ code is irrelevant anyway. As they are freesale codeshare there doesn't even need to be a Jetstar customer onboard. And I would suggest the number of customers is miniscule.

I understand every QF domestic service between Bne, Syd and Mel are JQ codeshare. Is that correct?
No, not in the slightest, virgindriver.

I doubt many cityflyer's would be codeshare with JQ, seeing as it is the company's bread and butter.

Dizzy, that's exactly what I say every time I get to V1 off Rwy 27 in your sh*thole part of the world.

'They' as in Jetstar?

And 'staff travel' as in for ground crew, or for all JQ staff?? Please elaborate...

Ditzy, not having a go but I find it kind of amusing that you are pointing out someone else's making generalisations and then go on to make one about Perth flights in the same post. I have had plenty of 'bogan-like behaviour' on more than just Perth flights!

You can never tell if there will be an announcement about anything in aviation these days.
If you could know in advance you could make a lot of money.

ditzyboy, you are making the same generalizations that others are making. There is a distinct difference between pax now and pax of years ago as the cost has come down. Those who caught the bus or XPT now sit next to you and fly.
It used to be just the Bali pax who could be described this way.

Sign of the times.

Why the hell would any airline suspend Staff Travel when times are tough.

It doesn't cost the airline anything, the staff are simply filling empty seats (of which there will be plenty).

In my opinion, Staff Travel is now more attractive than ever, with fuel surcharges gone and lighter loads increasing the chance of getting on a flight.

I cant see JQ cant surviving on AVV-SYD if TT begin MEL-SYD. Even Virgin are proving a cheap alternative with "No Fuel Surcharges" of late....

This is what the TT CEO is saying of late:
Mr Ryan said Tiger would continue to expand in Australia this year.
Tiger Airways group chief executive Tony Davis said Sydney could be one of its new destinations as talks with Sydney Airport continue.
“If conditions are right, the opportunity is right, the cost base is right, then, absolutely, we will fly into Sydney,” he said
Complete oposite from what he said few months back.

All I know is that I'd prefer to do cityflyer full of FFPL's and CL anyday even if it is to Perth as opposed to the Logan Bogan's who fly once or twice a year.

All I know is that checkin is effected, dont know any more details at this stage and to what extent. I am trying to get more info & will post when i do. Thought some others might have heard something? I agree, if the aircraft isn't full why not have staff filling up seats, one of the few remaining perks of the industry now days.

cheers.

Perhaps a part of it, is JQ looking at the economics of AVV if they have to pay for the tower being manned at some stage in the future; say, about right after the airshow (that's if ASA could find any controllers!)
