Qantas and the Media Frenzy

The media blitz regarding Qantas, although it is unpalatable, may do some good in the longer term.
The Qantas shortcomings have been obvious to employees and customers for a number of years.Dixon has managed to either put spin on most problems or look at a media spend review with offending publications.
That appears to have come to an end.
The expectations of shareholders passengers and employees have not been met during Dixon's tenure
While Dixon and Jackson were show ponies Leigh Clifford is not.He would not be comfortable with the current circumstances.
CASA has been stirred into action and it too is under scrutiny.
The media is generally poorly informed and hysterical but can usually spot a fire before the smoke hits the atmosphere.
While painful and odious at present this attention will become an agent of positive change at the rat.
Live in hope

Media Manipulation

SingAir is amazing at the way it keeps incidents out of the media.
Qantas seems to have lost its knack of media manipulation. The way in which the LAMES dispute was used was appalling.
Dixon has continually bent the media to do his bidding... beginning with SARs and then 911.
The sky is falling mentality is actually proving to be a self fulfilling prophesy.

Must have cut back on the club memberships and upgrades to manipulate the press. Better go back and start courting them again before all is revealed!

The media in this country are absoultely pathetic. A report in 'AdelaideNow' yesterday stated "Another Qantas Jet Grounded in Sydney". It turns out the Japan bound flight was delayed for 3 hours due to a technical fault being discovered pre-flight and subsequent maintenance required. Unbelievable....so now the media are reporting maintenance as near disasters. It's like a pack of dogs fighting over a bone.

A Purpose Served

The media is doing a fine job by bringing the shortcomings of Qantas management to the publics attention.
If its sensationalized.... so what..?...Dixon has been doing the same for years
Employees and pax have been complaining to no avail.
Perhaps now things will change.

Cmon Ka Boom....How is reporting a defect (detected pre-flight) that received the appropriate maintenance action reporting 'QF mismanagement'????? All they are doing is reporting normal day to day operations of any airline worldwide.

Spotlight On Qf...Tempo

If you shine a light on small insignificant problems the bigger problems caused by cost cutting come out from the shadows.
Qantas is receiving unprecedented and ridiculous coverage.
Agreed.
Some of the important stuff is also being uncovered.
It could also prevent more cost cutting in maintenance.
The media is now prepared to listen where previously it was uninterested.
Bring it on and shine the light on everything no matter how insignificant.

Accountability

For the last ten years qantas managment has been accountable for nothing and to no one.
Now its being made accountable for everything and to everyone.
Bloody Good Thing.
Unfortunately it wont last long .
The media has an attention span of a demented gnat.

The way I see it is that the Media love a plane crash/incident 'cause we have become so blasay about auto accidents/deaths that who rarely watches it on TV anymore? Make an aviation issue out of something that pretty much happens on a reg basis somewhere in the world & the media milk it for all it's worth. Sadly the Media are here to stay for some time yet. Tall poppy syndrome it is at times here in Oz, cut 'em down quickly as soon as they look like their getting all the attention!

SM I hope you earned the right to use that handle. However, I believe that your observation that Leigh Clifford is a different kettle of fish compared to previous holders of that office is extremely accurate. QF are in for a change of management from the top down with governance being the focus - I do not know the man but all indications are positive.

Safe flying.

Tall Poppy?

Both Dixon and Joyce need cushions at the table.
There is no tall poppy syndrome here just comeuppance.
Dixon should be roasted toasted and fried before he leaves.
All this attention may just be the perfect learning curve for the newbie.
Dont put your snout in the trough like the other bloke did.
Unfortunately for the name "Qantas"it has become synonymous with cost cutting and poor service and maintenance.
Qantas is an entity and Dixon and his cronies have made it a media target.
They have sullied the name and trashed the brand(see other threads)
Dixon will leave and fade into obscurity. It is up to the "Mighty Maths Munchkin" to resurrect the name Qantas.
Good luck Triple M you will need it.
