QF 767 Narita
beyond belief
yes..it's totally beyond belief that an aussie operator would calculate takeoff data for one runway and mistakenly use another...747's don't do it in taipei either!..or 340's in anchorage..or 777's in bangkok...etc etc

The two runways in NRT are separated by a couple of kilometres, they are not side by side and have diametrically opposed taxi routes. You cannot mistake one for the other. You cannot taxi for one and mistakenly end up on another. Departures on each runway are strictly controlled by a slot system, of which ATC are very aware.
For a crew to take off on the wrong runway there, ATC also would have to have screwed up mightily.
It didn't happen. Its a beat up. Build a bridge...

Yes blueloo and Bug Smasher Smasher, you seem to be the only people on this forum who know the truth.
The last thing I would ever do in this business is criticise anyone for making an error, regardless of the possible consequences. It can happen to anyone at any time. The most important thing is to identify the deficiency that caused the error. In this case the crew self-reported, and a procedural flaw was identified and corrected. There was no retribution.
Open reporting at its best. Nice to see the system works.
