Why Doesn't Jetstar fly to Haneda?
With Osaka virtually off the radar for airlines operating Australia to Japan why doesnt someone start flying to Haneda?
To get from Australia to Osaka,Sapporo or Nagoya is difficult and time consuming....into Narita then bus to Haneda and then another plane to your domestic destination.
Flying into Haneda would make Japanese domestic travel a little easier.
Thoughts anyone?

Yes cogwheel is right,
Any international Airline would love to be able to fly to Handeda but Japan has designated it a domestic only airport (with a few exceptions I think China Airlines for one uses it, so it still does a few international flights but not many) Thats why Narita was built because Haneda reached capacity ages ago.The chance of any international airline getting access to it would be between zero and buckley's!

When I was flying out of Haneda recently, there was talk of expanding the very limited international presence at Haneda - from memory this was supposed to be around 2010. I do recall seeing Asiana on the ground often.
It's ideally located to get into central Tokyo very quickly.

Have you considered the fact that the Air Services Agreement between Australia and Japan precludes Haneda operations? I can't be bothered looking but I think that may be the answer as ASA's are quite specific about, amongst other things, the points between which airlines from each side may operate.

Took years for the Seoul Gimpo to Tokyo Haneda shuttle by JAL, ANA, KAL and Asiana to be ironed out. Its a great operation if you need to get from Tokyo to Seoul in a hurry. But I think slots for int'l ops at Haneda are very limited and will remain so.

May not be the case now but SIA used to fly Singapore direct to Osaka - Kansai.

Haneda
The D runway is currently under construction and is due to open around 2010. Construction on the new international terminal has also commenced on the site of the old terminal (western side of the airport). China Airlines has been operating from NRT's terminal 2 for some time now but Shanghai Airlines, ANA, JAL and Korean (maybe others) are currently operating limited "charter" flights (in reality scheduled services classed as charter by the authorities) into HND from HKG, Korea etc but once the D runway and terminal open a number of Asian and Japanese carriers are expected to operate mostly intra-Asian services from HND on a scheduled basis from that time. There is a good "construction time-line" in terminal 2 showing the construction plans.

As people above have said, HND is primarily for domestic flights only. The only current international flights are:
HND-SHA (Hongqiao)
HND-GMP (Gimpo)
HND-HKG
Airlines involved are: JL/NH/KE/OZ/FM/MU (I think...)
Additionally, other irregular charters and Government flights are permitted.
All flights are operated as scheduled charters. Just a government formality as regular scheduled international flights are not permitted from HND (and SHA, GMP I suspect).
Once the new D runway (to the south of the current airfield) opens (along with the new international terminal) there will be expanded international ops from HND.
AirAsiaX is going to the new Ibaraki airport north of NRT, not HND AFAIK.
As it currently stands, they won't even process a diverted flight in HND. The authorities make everyone stay on board until NRT (or wherever they were going) is available again. Crazy!
Still....there's light at the end of the tunnel!
