BoganAir and Mr Eslake

Had to laugh at this one - (makes you wonder how many pollie types elect to travel with Dixon's love child?).

Saul Eslake is probably one customer who QF/JQ really don't want to piss off - but they did anyway:

“He changed the greeting on his mobile and office phones to one that explained that he had planned to be back in the office at 3.30pm, but thanks to Jetstar's monumental incompetence and ineptitude, I am spending about three and half hours twiddling my thumbs at the Hamilton Island airport. If you have an alternative to flying on Bogan Air, as I call Jetstar, please take my advice and use it.”

It is somewhat amusing to hear an executive of an Australian bank harping on about "monumental incompetence and ineptitude". Having dealt with Mr.Eslake's esteemed financial intermediary on a number of occasions over the years I rather thought that they may have a copyright on the idea of poor customer service, insufficient client support and inconsistent corporate policies.

Not to mention scandalous pricing for basic services.

On another note, Mr.Eslake's assumption that Jetstar is a "Bogan" airline shows all too clearly how utterly, contemptibly out-of-touch corporate executives are. One of the key reasons why people need to seek out a low-cost alternative to travel is because of the stagnating (in many cases lowering) conditions of service for many staff across a whole range of industries. Banking included. Individuals like and including Mr.Eslake are responsible for this decline and to insinuate that his fellow passengers are "Bogans" demonstrates the sort of arrogance which typifies the "Captains of Industry" in Australia.

Far from being concerned that individuals like Mr.Eslake show disdain for Jetstar, I suggest that anyone who finds his attitude offensive (and unprofessional - was it really necessary to have a little hissy-fit on his phone bank?) simpy choses not to do business with the ANZ. I'm sure they won't notice it but, then again, neither will the Qantas Group.

Small point, but he is an employee of ANZ, not the CEO.

But I tend to agree t is pretty funny when the top end of town have to utilise the level of service they created - without a choice.

Whats the problem.
Even people with money and influence are allowed an opinion.
Bogain air ? Definitelty.
If there were choice I don't think any one would care this mob are around, the problem is there is no choice and we are stuck with "Bogan Air".
I have to say the ANZ product is probably the best overall banking product on the market, at least the best product of the "big 4".

What I find amusing about references to Jetstar being a bogan airline is that Australia is a BOGAN COUNTRY, by and large.

Statistically speaking, when you lower prices to a point where most ozzies can now fly, then the end result is that the majority of those on board ARE BOGANS.

Australia. Great food, clean air and open spaces. But full of bogans.

Sorry, but true.

I have got to say that I agree with the bogan comment however the Australian public can afford the J class product and there is a choice now and that is VB. I would suggest the marketing people at VB can see how arrogant the QF/JQ management and how they are pissing the rich bogans off and are making hay while the sun shines...

I am sorry to report that the bogan theory is more than true.
There was a poster distibuted by the Government that stated "some things were never meant to fly". How true. Most of the traditional market who can talk without uncontrolled salivation who live in semi regional Australia now fly JQ or DJ not out of choice. There is however the base load. "Them".
We (being a Jetset franchise) get an average of 7 or 8 calls a day from lisdexic wukfits who cannot get their single neuron around the difference between Jetset and Jetstar.
I had an idiot call the other day from somewhere down the East Coast of Tassie who said "just booked meself and the wife an kids to Bali on Garuda over that Web thingy. Is an hour enough time to get off your plane and onto thiers?"
Couldn't bloody help myself. "Yeah mate - go for it!"
Hope he has a nice holiday - in Melbourne.
No, and I do not feel guilty. The Balinese are far too nice a people to deserve the shallow end of our gene pool.
Best all
A vindictive and definitely mongrel EWL

I agree with your sentiments entirely. On a different note ANZ are now crowing they have over 1,400 employees in India performing tasks previously done in Australia by Australians.

I flew Jetstar MEL-NTL last week and it was anything but bogan. The cabin crew were young but seemed experienced. Very professional yet engaged with the customers in a friendly and sincere way. I observed more than a dozen customers thank the crew for an excellent flight. The 320 was very clean and LIGHT YEARS more comfortable than a QF 737.

First time I have flown on them with allocated seating and it was like a different airline. The customers around me couldn't sing enough praise for Jetstar. One even saying the return flight was cheaper on Virgin but he didn't mind paying the extra to fly Jetstar.

Mr Eslake should get out more. There are many full service flights I have operated that are far more 'bogan' than any Jetstar flight. Some of the intra-WA flights and HKG flights are more akin to a third world bus than an aircraft.

MR ESLAKE -
You know what is worse than dealing with bogans? It is people who should know better yet through their own ignorance, arrogance and slobbery act like one.

RENURPP -
I agree ANZ does have a great product. Yet I am let down by their service time and time again. They consistently lack any interest in the value of their customers.

I once made a written complaint about a staff member. A few days later I had the branch manager on the phone bagging him out to me and calling him all sorts of names. Very unprofessional. Yet this guy still works there two years on.

I hope EWC your conversation quoted here is a fictional one.
One of the many problems that ground staff have in Jetstar is connecting pax not having enough time to collect bags and recheck.
So here we have a supposed respectable travel agent giving out (knowingly) incorrect info. causing them to miss probably their dream holiday because in your opinion their a.......bogan!!.
So EWL picture the scene in ML when this bogan is standing at the international gate lounge, kids in tow, spitting fury at the ground staff because a travel agent told them there was plenty of time to connect when in fact there wasn't, and worse still the Travel agent knew it.
Nice one EWL.

EWL has every right. The "lisdexic wukfits" did not book through his service so are not provided a service. You pay for what you get!

Whilst most of you make critical comments about us bogans in Australia, I can assure you that most bogans in Australia would give you a push if your car broke down, lend a hand without being asked and generally look out for anyone in need.
Thumbs Up, spot on mate, sounds like this poor bloke has finally gotten the opportunity to spring his family a holiday and some middle class snob down in tassie thought couldn't give the man a break and help him out.
EWL, your the bogan mate, in Australia its about giving each other a hand when needed, not crapping on those beneath you whilst aiming to be those above you. Australia is evolving into people like yourself and its a shame...
Very poor form.

I concur Mr. Dogimed, what is a bogan? Someone that comes from a lower socioeconomic group? Someone that works in the scrub or a mine. Bit of elitism going on here from what I can tell. Just because you're poor doesn't make you bad and the continued disparaging remarks only further that other stereotype of pilots being self absorbed w**n*ers with their heads up there arses. Now we know thats not the case buts lets not give that impression, it makes us all look bad.

Important pax?

If our Mr Eslake was so important, maybe he copuld have chartered his own jet that would have taken him home when he wanted to go. It appears that many people are less important when it costs money to be so.

I remember a long time ago when we actually had two airlines servicing Alice Springs, there were two VERY IMPORTANT EXECUTIVES flying in to look at a mine. They were so omportant that they could not both fly in the same airliner. Each one flew with a different airline. But when they got to Alice Springs they both got into a Chieftain to fly to the mine site.

The Definition of a Bogan
WOG - What is a bogan?

BOGAN (pronunciation boe-gn) is a term used primarily in Australia to describe a particular section of the working class demographic. … A bogan typically resides in either a low-cost housing estate, government housing or in the outlying regional areas of continental Australia.

So now we have a basic understanding of the bogan, we may delve further into the mysterious world of mullets and long-kneck beer bottles in brown paper bags. Traits of the bogan can be summarised by the following points:

• A pronounced lack of dress sense in social situations. On rare occasions bogans may be spotted wearing enclosed shoes when entering the local RSL to "have a slap on the pokies" or to "get pissed wif me mates on the veebs (VB
• A lack of personal hygiene. A bogan will often allow his/her hair to grow into an attractive style named the "mullet" as popularised in the 1980's. The bogan frequently rosters showers at irregular intervals such as once a week for males and twice for females.

• Distinct vocabulary. The bogan language is somewhat foreign to most English-speaking people.
A common bogan trait also includes shortening words. Locations such as the Wyong Leagues Club become the "leaguesy", the Crown Casino becomes the "leaguesy" and females/males such as Sharon/Barry become "Shaz" and "Baz".

• A particular choice in motor vehicle. The bogan usually drives one of two makes of vehicle. Typically this is either a Holden Commodore (VB-VP models)or a Ford Falcon (all models up to the recent EF
• Choice in music. The bogan prefers either metal or pub rock. A bogan would suggest that the song Khe Sanh would be a more appropriate national anthem than Advance Australia Fair or Anything by Barnesy.

• Employment status. The common bogan is either a) not employed or b) a labourer. Unemployed bogans often frequent RSL's/clubs for discount lunches during the day, before continuing on to the local Centrelink office to receive the hard-earned cash of the tax-paying public

• A poorly-maintained house or unit with
The bedroom (for rootun).
The balcony (for smokun/shootun).
The livun room (for watchun telly/smokun/gettun pissed).
The kitchen (for storun beer).
The combined bathroom/laundry (for washun ****) .
The shed (for rootun/smokun/shootun/gettun pissed/storun beer/workun on the commo).
All-in-all the bogan is seen as a top bloke by his mates, but is a menace to the rest of society.

EWL for president!
