Don't hold your breath Krusty.

I think there is a lot of interest being shown by disgruntled current jet captains from another operater regarding DEC's, if VB will need them at all.

Don't get their hopes up too high HH.

This was my post 15 months ago.
Seems to be an alarming amount of companies advertising for twin drivers, is there a genuine pilot shortage? Or is just hard getting the right hour requirements from applicants. Interesting times if you look at all the EBA negotiations at present and the eventual mass recruiting by Jet star.
Where are all the Companies going to get Pilots from if we say NO to up front endorsement fees and bonds, companies like Natjet, Virgin, Jet Star and skippers may just find that there is enough alternative employment here and overseas for pilots to get employment with out having to pay for endorsements.
Seems the tradition of shaking the nearest tree for pilots is over and the constant flow of GA pilots through the systems is drying up. Great times a head if we all realize that along with the rest of professional Australia our value has increased dramatically in the last few years. Time for the GA award to increase significantly like other industries short of workers, to attract the huge amount of un used Commercial Licenses out there that are making more money in other industries.
Interesting reading.
Here are some quotes I love.
From MBA747
Wonderdog don't you read?? Even if you just followed this forum you would know there is a tremendous surplus of GA pilots. Nearly every operator I have spoken to, has said " shake the trees and pilots will fall". If that were not so, why would pilots have to drive up North just hoping to get some flying job.

Never has been and never will be a shortage of young people with CPLs.
Slice
Charliethewonderdog - that's a wide spread there but I have to suspect that if they are finding it dificult to get qualified pilots (500 m/e etc.) it is because they are not actually looking very hard (ie beyond the resumes at the end of their desk!)
I can tel you they ARE looking hard now.
I Love this one

There never has been and will never be a shortage of pilots in Oz. The only change possibly in numbers, is that from a gross oversupply of pilots to an oversupply of pilots.

Aha the old pilot shortage chestnut, this gets dragged out around every 12 months and we all have a good time shooting it down. The sad fact is that it's no more than a sales pitch touted by the flight training industry.
404 TITAN
There never has been nor will there ever be a shortage of new CPL holders looking for their first job.
If anyone thinks there is no Pilot shortage now than they are absolute MORONS, and if you also run a charter company or even a Turbo prop company and still think that Pilots " fall out of Trees" than your company will go under.
Like I have said in this thread, the companies that start to reaise this and try and retain drivers wil survive.
To all the operators and Managers out there I say to you this.
You have had it too good for too long. SHOW US THE MONEY.

AvCanada

I've been checking that website once a week for nearly 3 years now...planned on Canada but work visa etc all extremely complicated

...anyway, since I started watching that site the number of jobs that turn up each week has increased three-fold, salaries/wages being offered are often considerably more than what used to be offered a couple of years ago and minimums have reduced as well. Hopefully this trend will also be reflected down-under as well.

Any expats flying over that way able to verify my observations?
