Cunning, sorry but my point was the 15K is really for doing nothing but not leaving the company, and keeping your medical valid.
It is not there to offset overtime, or to cover working on your days off.
Even if VB paid overtime, its not often you do more than 75hrs per month anyway. Apparently the average hours for VB pilots is around 720/yr. And as for going in on your days off - forget it!
Dont get me wrong, I am NOT defending either airlines pay - they are both crap!

If I'm thirsty, which of these two airlines won't charge me for a can of Coke?
Because if you can't negotiate a free can of Coke in your contract, I would hate to imagine other lack of liberties................

If that's the best you can do Polly, it ably demonstrates the aptitude of a generation of low cost pilots who have to buy a job.
But since you asked, my overnight allowances can get me a hooker in fishnets- if I so desire.
What does yours get you? Or do you have to save it to help pay off the endorsement?

Now you listen here son. All I was asking is which airline would provide me with a can of Coke. It's a fair question. And it's a consideration that affects my vote- if you can't work out why then you are a little green.
Secondly, your outburst as unimpressive as Polly's- you must be an aspiring low cost pilot.
And finally, you put up your silly poll without a very important third option- NEITHER!

How do I vote for Gnadenburg!!
It was a simple question really. Now if I cannot get a free drink and salad lunch, I am a little upset.
The pax moreso when I join them in the cabin and spend half an hour trying to make a fresh sandwich and juice from my own personal esky
Ah, hot meals for all.... the only way to fly!
Back to the thread, was interesting.

The future
Lots of guys in the middle East with 777 Commands just waiting for Boeing to announce a larger 787.
Take the endorsement, get some time and head home to a nice retirement job in Oz. Why not?
Way of the future people! Mobile workforce, expats who have done the hard yards, erosion of the old seniority system and destruction of the union system will ensure that the first people employed will be "cost neutral".
If you can't beat them join them.
Australia is still, and will remain, the best place to live in the world. However it is an isolated and geographically remote region with an artificial aviation labour pool.
Already I see management realising that the foot will soon be on the other foot with qualified applicants for jobs steadily decreasing. VB, NJS and others are quickly attempting to lock new joiners as well as the existing workforce into longer term contracts with lower terms and conditions.
Hold fast. The 7 year cycle may at last be returning!

J* domestic - Yes! Day trips, overtime, fewer night sectors. You can actually have a life.
J* Int - No way! Crap pay, days off overseas. If you have a family - forget it! Might be a bit of fun initially, but the novalty will wear off quick.

My experience would indicate that when weighing up the pros and cons of one airline vs another, there is always one overiding and critical factor. Go with the one that offers you a job. To pass up an airline job in australia with the expectation you will get a slot at the other is optimistic to the extreme!
