744 Right Wing Low

Did I hear correct, Today a QF 744 scraped #4 engine during a landing into SYD ?
To add to the pain QF 1 is CANX. The ex heavy maintenance aircraft just out of SIN is in no shape to fly anywhere and its replacement to do the QF 1 is the aircraft that was damaged landing today....

Danger More delays in store.

With the amount of dead jumbo's at the base at the moment it looks like an elephants graveyard out there. The amount of warrenty being charged on aircraft returning from overseas should keep next years profit at a new high, although the flying public will be p***ed off at all the delays.
The scrapped engine is replaced with one changed in Singapore lately with sparks coming out the back(no better engines left). No broken fuse pins luckily, with hard work it may fly tonight.
The other aircraft still has gremlins in its cabin electrics after being ferryed back from Singapore yesterday after a heavy maintenance visit, but we're still told its a quality organisation.

Company_ Spy; With the various aircraft coming out of the 'quality organisation' but still with things amiss and awry do you think that there is a possibility that Mr Dixon will get the message eventually or will it be too late?
Or...will he even care?

He will get the message, but it will be close to when he moves on and takes his big 'phat' bonus.

Yeah baby, yeah. Be a manager, not a peasant.

I heard they dont care as the disission to send them overseas is made and they are saving money.even if they spend a few days sorting out the defects

It is apparent that the Board and GD don't care about the quality of aircraft returning from overseas MRO's, as long as the costs of outsourced maintenance is lower than inhouse work the push will be for more outsourced work. Even though the costs of repairs are being recovered the bottom line is that once the decision was made to outsource nothing will change the company's mind in the short term to retain maintenance in Australia.
A number of overseas airlines who outsourced their maintenance have finally realised their error and have started to bring it back inhouse but this is a long and costly process. When a new board is finally installed a change may take place but by then it will probably be to late.

QF001 operated about 4 hours or so late and QF031 overnighted.

Gee thanks wonder world,
So OPS swapped the QF 1 for the 31. A flight to LHR was still CANX due to broken aircraft. When I posted the QF 31 was going and the 1 staying but if you wish to split hairs.....

On a more interesting note.
A QF aircraft #4 engine hit the ground on landing in windy conditions into SYD. It didn't make the press and from my own memory I think this type of accident/incident is a first for a 747/744 into SYD.

Funny how the pilots go quiet in here when one of their own is in the poo.
Cant blame a marshaller for this one.

Excuse me Bolt
But the winds in SYD have been very windy!! Please don't go and blame someone for doing their job. Wait for the inquiry before you apportion any blame.

BTW for anyone who's interested, here's the report about the pod-scrape in Perth.

Wash your mouth out Tailly. Don't give them any more daft ideas. They're already heady with excitement over the current plans.

QF031 wasnt cancelled. It overnighted and left Friday morning. I dont know how you can call that cancelled! Big difference between delayed and cancelled.

I think perhaps we are splitting hares here (mmmmmmmmm rabbit for dinner). The assertion was that a certain heavy maintenance operation was not quite living up to it's claims.

I read this as the LAMEs in Sydney having to unreasonably do things that others were paid to do .....

Not a good couple of days for QF services to LHR. QF31 due ex SIN 15th left over 4 hrs late after an A/C change due planned A/C "cabin lighting defect" in SYD, AFAIK QF1 also late into LHR. QF31 14th was also planned late ex SIN. Over brecky in LHR just now, heard that QF2 tonight is planned 2 hrs late - that's after curfew here, more costs.

Perhaps the odd chicken is coming home to roost?

Hmmm. One wonders how long the premium punters put up with that, when the main competing carriers operate through their home ports and may therefore have better access to back-up a/c; even oneworld Cathay, so potentially no dropping of FFP miles/status for QF FFs (have left BA out of the analysis due route-sharing arrangement).

blueloo: doesn't look much from the outside but it cracked the IDG case, crack in gearbox but no oil loss, firewall buckled, drain mast now 6 inches higher up and side cowls a lot thinner on the bottom.
