Ozjet Pilot Interviews - Open Day in Perth
I see that Ozjet are holding an open day/ pilot interviews in Perth later this month. Are they setting up a Perth base, or are the interviews for the Brisbane operation?
gas chamber, you mean like the various other airlines that have open days for tech and cabin crew around the world but are not planning to have a base in the city where the open day is held?
Give aquaplaner a break for goodness sake.
The word is that they indeed plan to have a Perth base down the track. However the West is now well served by turboprop and jet FIFO services so it will be interesting to see what happens. Alliance are now operating F100 FIFO to Leinster and Mt Keith.

Icarus, point taken and apologies for the sarcasm. But, OJ is hardly the scale of Emirates and such. So if they are having an open day in Perth, betcha they want pilots for Perth.

Ozjet in the Kimberley
From the WA govt media statements website:
Statement Released: 21-Nov-2006
> Portfolio: Planning and Infrastructure
> Perth-Derby jet service to begin next February.
> 21/11/06
> A jet service linking Perth and Derby with three return flights each week will begin operating in February next year.
> Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the Government had granted Ozjet Airlines exclusive access to the route for two years with an option for a further 12 months.
> Ms MacTiernan said the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley and Ozjet had negotiated an arrangement with three local mining companies, to guarantee the viability of the service.
> "This service will provide a real boost to Derby and I congratulate the shire and Ozjet for working together to deliver such a pioneering solution," she said.
> "A regular passenger service for the public is an important way that regional communities can gain some benefit from fly-in fly-out mining operations.
> "While mining employees will be its mainstay, local people, other local employers and businesses will also be able to take advantage of this service."
> Shire president Elsia Archer said the shire was delighted that the State Government had approved the application for this integral service .
> "Our community looks forward to this convenient service commencing and we are sure it will offer an opportunity to attract more tourists to our beautiful region," Ms Archer said.
> The shire had also negotiated with the Department of Defence for the service to use the Curtin Airbase 30km south from Derby.
> Ozjet CEO Mr Willie O'Neill said the process had been very involved.
> "We had to negotiate with the three mines to align their working rosters, to ensure a sustainable volume of passengers was achieved to justify the service," Mr O'Neill said.
> "Our return fares will be competitively priced when compared with existing airfares."
> The service will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week on a 737-200 aircraft.
> Flights will be two hours' long and are scheduled to leave Perth at 5.30am and return at 12.30pm.

Scheduled service? RPT?
I am pleased to see that a jet service is going to Derby.
It is very interesting to note that this can be done without an RPT AOC, even though non miners can also travel. (this is as it should be.)
A number of GA companies have been put out of business by CASA for doing similar things. This is documented in the Phelan papers.
Rubbery rules?

I don't know too much about the rules, but I would assume Ozjet will be operating under their AOC that entitles them to go to Norfolk Island. Also I don't think they ever wound up their flying operations, just stopped being an airline in the traditional sense. So any documentation they had before could still be valid.
Nice one bushy. Here is a link to their RPT AOC...http://www.casa.gov.au/casadata/aoc/.../1-FAAL-04.pdf
All they have to do is add new ports to an existing HCAOC authorising RPT operations.

would this not be a rather expensive exercise to base an aircraft in perth to fly 3 days a week? or do we think they have other unannounced work in the pipeline...
If you build it, they will come...
Once the 737 is here (Feb) you can guarantee there will be more work for it. I am sure that their sales & marketing people will be working on that right now, as we type.
Remember that if you own the aircraft outright you don't have to service the loan every month. Sure you still have insurance, parking, crews etc but not paying out on a $10 million lease makes a huge difference to how many hours you need the airframe to do a year to cover costs and then make money.
After the money that Stoddard lost with the RPT before he would probably be rapt if this venture just made a modest profit.

I think the Northwest Shelf would be an area they would be keen to look at with a 737 size aircraft. I am suprised that other companies haven't started looking at bigger aircraft as of yet because the current offerings will be too small in the future. Skywest are on the ball trying to lease A320s. At least then if it doesn't work it won't burn them. OZjet may move in and cleanup in Perth if a couple of contracts come out next year that require 737 size aircraft, as they will be on the spot. Don't forget that Paul Stoddard IS a successful charter operater in Europe, so he may have some idea about what he is doing in this market.
Is that an Ozjet 737 parked out of the way on the international apron?
