Hang on a minute Muttley....gross generalisations aside, the perceived problems with Thai crews you point out - wouldn't that be a product of the system that screens and recruits applicants, trains them and monitors their performance once checked to line?

Are you saying J* couldn't achieve the same standard with Thais as with old Aussie boilers? (who incidentally everyone whinges about constantly)

I have to agree with Muttley on this one.It is not a matter of racism but of a cultural difference.

QF has even tried to give the Thai crew courses in assertiveness but to no avail. It is just the Thai way of doing things.

The main problem is though the loss of Australian jobs.If the company could get crew from Kazakhstan cheaper they would then tell the Thai crew to reduce their conditions to match.

Unfortunately with people falling over themselves to apply for and accept J* T & C's the company can argue that they are offering acceptable conditions. This then vindicates their argument that this is all for the traveller and they continue with the downward slide.

Imagine only getting $8000 per annum , they would get more than that in allowances. No wonder a few have tried things like selling cigs to increase their income.

The part that I find so interesting is that the journo's do not question the board on why they base their remuneration on western standards and all other employees on third world country rates.

It sounds as though our boss's favourite movie was Wall st and his hero was Gordon Gecko...."Greed is Good"
