Virgin Blue Pilot Recruitment Freeze

I would not go so far as to call it a recruiting freeze..... effectively to have a recruiting freeze you need to have had some recruitment in very recent times. The last course i am aware of was from an interview process done back in Feb/Mar with nothing since.
It could simply be that the recruiting porthole via staffcv is being overhauled, perhaps to include mins for EMB or data entry on the application for the EMB, i do not know i am just speculating. They may even be expanding the information on the application to include an outline of the recruiting process; similar to the info the other positions (cabin crew etc.) have. You never know, there may even be the introduction of psych and skill into the equation...........blah blah blah.
There is no end to the speculation that can be applied to the current sitution, i guess the moral of the story is we will just have to wait and see what happens; which will be nothing before the EBA is decided in any case.

If they are overhauling the recruiting porthole via staffcv, why would it take over 1 month to do this?
It sounds like Virgin Blue are assessing the applications that they currently have. They may begin to make some decisions for interviews shortly?
So if you wanted a job with Virgin Blue, lets hope you updated your file.
Then again, if one of you people who have had a stickybeak here and know something, how bout you drop a line in here. It's easier than you may think if you haven't done this before!

The recruitment process is being completely overhauled. Expect more extensive testing, interviewing, background checks and a sim ride in the future.
Next intake before the end of the year I hear.

There are no longer the high calibre Management Pilots that could once just look at a guy, his log book and chat for 20 minutes to know if he had the "right stuff" for the airline. Now you have pyschometric testing, co-ordination skill testing, crminal/schooling back ground checks, medicals designed originally for space cadets, minimum of two interviews varying from 30 minutes to 1hr 30 minutes, pay your own airfares and accommodation costs and, if you get through all that, pay for your own rating.
All this after just forking out $100,000 plus for a CPL, MECIR or Instructor rating.
Why do guys go through it?

It should be done the other way around.
The medicals, psych tests, interviews and assessment etc BEFORE the money is spent. Then you would only have a few, far more suitable candidates for each job, instead of the flood of all and sundry that they have now.
Surely this would be cheaper and better. for both the company and the pilot candidate.
Maybe it would be worth paying for this first, to assess whether it is worth spending $100,000.00.
If it was available.

I believe the notice by Virgin Blue was posted perhaps mid last week. Would someone who saw it the day that Virgin Blue put it on let us know when it was posted.
That was one of my original Questions and would like it answered by someone from the VB team that may be getting home very soon.
For the shot about the IT department at VB, im not sure that it's really all too fair, as the office guys work pretty hard for what they get as well.

Where did you guys go to train? I managed to do it for $54,000 4 years ago and while I don't have a fancy schmancy degree feel I'm no worse off than those who have. Has the cost risen that much? Or do some have more coin than they know what to do with...

I am certainly not surprised they want sim rides and a proper interview. It is expensive to train idiots that should have been caught in a screening net prior to starting.

I think you will find there will be plenty of jobs going on both fleets, when it finally does happen.
The pay on the EMB might surprise a few as well. (ie not bad at all, given current practices)
