One of the things that I think stinks is that GD has a captive audience on the CNS/DRW/SIN flights.
There will be a lot of people that buy tickets in Europe to fly a full service airline with IFE and so on to Australia and then find out in SIN that they are transferring to Scrooge Air.
Once on board they will soon find out what they have to put up with for about 6 to 7 hours of flying ( not including the transit in DRW) ...A great introduction to Australia courtesy of our fearless leader...
Wingspar..That $11 million profit was I think after tax ,so the $10 million on adverts will be part of operating costs before tax and probably not much different to the advertising cost they spend now but certainly that is why they are trying to breathe life into J* Asia with this exercise.
Twiggs...Competition is not the only thing that lowers costs to the consumer, ethics also plays a big part and that is something which I feel is sadly lacking with our management

I and others wish it was after tax but unfortunately it wasn't.

The point you probably refer is that this figure is down $10 million due to set up costs with JQ International which is very true.
The new advertising contract is with a Singapore agency for SE asia only and was awarded this financial year.

So the bucks are already adding up with no services yet.

For the last few years AO have been doing the route with a 767 as were QF, both with the old projector style movies.
The leather seats on Jet* asia are much more comfortable than the seats on the 767 in economy.
Just wait till the European gentlemen get an eyefull of the cute young Singaporean girls serving them too!

I for one preferred to pay the extra and travel up the back of the QF A330, rather than AO. I don't know what I will do now...

Kanga ole mate.
A QF A330 has never done the CNS - DRW - SIN route.
Yes the QF 81 (A330) goes via DRW from ADL to SIN a few times a week and the QF 51/52 (A330) to/from BNE - SIN sometime drops in to DRW to pick up some over flow but the CNS - DRW - SIN has been a 767 in varous livery.

Sorry, I was referring to the DRW-SIN leg. I didn't care too much where it came from or went to after I got off it. Of course you people are referring to it as a whole.
It was also served with a 747SP and a 747-200. Regardless of what it was, it most certainly wasn't an A320 with nil service and seat pitch the same as a throwback sized Barramundi

the Europeans still can get to/from DRW at least, on a QF A330 with the full service and AVOD entertainment, by taking the QF 81/82.

You can bet that the company will not be pointing that out to them ....

As I have mentioned before CNS-DRW-SIN-DRW-CNS route has nearly always been full of pax and cargo, regardless of what aircraft has been used. I have been working on this route for over 6 years and over that time the inbound cargo is always large pallets with connections to Japan out of CNS. These large pallets do not fit on an A320 so where will that revenue be going?
By putting JQ on this route I feel that they will now be making less profit with more seats. This of course will be gauged a success as JQ can not be seen to fail at anything.
QF81/82 does already operate ADL-SIN direct a couple of times a week, this may increase in the next schedule change.

Nunc est bibendum
Ah yes.... I can see the headlines now!
"New route results in 100% load factor reaffirming managements decision in allocating the JQ product to this market."
Statistics is one thing, understanding them is another.

What a bonus

Will be interesting to see what happens when QF management realise that the A320 will be operating under a Singaporean AOC and as such, will NOT be permitted to carry passengers domestically between CNS and DRW (and v.v.).
Maybe they didn't really think that one through . . .

Errr - not entirely sure that's possible, however I agree they'll proably find a work-around somehow.
I can't think of any other examples of foreign carriers being allowed to pick up domestic pax (well not since United SYD-MEL in 2001/2 anyway).

Pretty soon the pensioner-in-charge ( Dixon ) will deem that the U.K. is a leisure route and so is the USA for that matter, whereupon people will be asking ' whatever happened to Qantas?'.
As someone said its not what the punter wants its about how cheap it is fo Dixon to provide the service.
As I've said before, where are all these Jetstar pilots coming from?
