Media Release
Qantas Airways Limited ABN 16 009 661 901 Further information and media releases can be found at the Qantas internet website: www.qantas.com.au SYDNEY, 15 September 2006: The Qantas Group today announced that Jetstar would commence daily operations on the Cairns-Darwin-Singapore route from 29 October, replacing the current five weekly Qantas B767 services. The Executive General Manager of Qantas, Mr John Borghetti, said the move to a daily Airbus A320 operation would increase capacity on the route by around 10 per cent, or 115 seats. “The change is in line with our well established, successful strategy of developing the two brands of Qantas and Jetstar,” Mr Borghetti said. “Our Cairns-Darwin-Singapore services predominantly cater for inbound leisure travellers, so the Jetstar model and style of service is the most appropriate for this route. “Jetstar’s Darwin-Singapore services will be timed to connect with Qantas international services between Singapore and Europe,” he said. Mr Borghetti said that in addition to daily Jetstar Cairns-Darwin-Singapore services, Qantas would continue to operate five international services each week from Darwin and 30 international services from Cairns including: two return Darwin-Denpasar services; three flights from Sydney to Mumbai via Darwin; seven return Cairns-Nagoya services; seven return Cairns-Osaka services; two services from Melbourne to Sapporo via Cairns; and 14 return Cairns-Narita services. He said that in addition, the Group would continue to operate 69 return Darwin domestic services and 206 domestic Cairns return services each week, including daily Qantas services between Darwin and Cairns and a daily QantasLink Darwin-Gove-Cairns service, as well as: Darwin 14 services to Alice Springs, including daily flights operated by Qantas and QantasLink 13 services to Brisbane, including daily Qantas flights and six Jetstar services 11 services to Adelaide, including daily Qantas flights and four Jetstar services daily Qantas services to Sydney daily Qantas services to Perth QANTAS ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO CAIRNS-DARWIN-SINGAPORE ROUTES 2 daily Qantas services to Cairns three Jetstar services to Melbourne daily QantasLink services to Gove Cairns Qantas services to Brisbane (28), Sydney (25), Ayers Rock (7), Darwin (7), Melbourne (7), and Perth (2); QantasLink services to Alice Springs (7), Ayers Rock (7), Townsville (33), Gove (7), Hamilton Island (13), Horn Island (14), and Weipa (13); and Jetstar services to Adelaide (3), Brisbane (19), Melbourne (7) and Sydney (7). Mr Borghetti said Qantas would codeshare on the new Jetstar flights. “Qantas codeshare customers will be offered complimentary inflight meals and amenities, and Qantas Club members will have access to Qantas-operated lounges at international airports,” he said. Mr Borghetti said Qantas would continue to offer freight capacity on the route on its B767 services, connecting at the airline's world-class Brisbane freight facility to the Qantas worldwide network. Customers affected by the schedule change will be contacted by Qantas or their travel agent. Issued by Qantas Corporate Communication (Q3480) |
VEEEERRRRY interesting ...
Flights operated by Aussie JQ or by JQ Asia? |
Quote from JB regarding the decision to replace QF services on CNS/DRW/SIN........“The change is in line with our well established, successful strategy of developing the two
brands of Qantas and Jetstar,” Mr Borghetti said." Another way of putting that is to say the well established successful strategy of dismantling a successful Australian icon is going to continue...... And as far as the plan to sell blankets is concerned any crew who has ever operated to Japan will know that the locals on that run always ask for more than one blanket because they feel the cold. J* will make a fortune at least until the news gets out and the travel agents advise all Japanese to bring their own blankets... |
Daily CNS-DRW-SIN-DRW-CNS
JQ 57 CNS 1355 SIN 1940 JQ 58 SIN 2215 CNS 0830+1 |
So much for the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service. The first places to be gutted.
|
the rumour mill was right!
There is the answer to why AO wetlease isn't operating CNS DRW SIN after it pulls out of DPS. It was going to JQ. Rumour is CX might be increasing its capacity into CNS. If that happens, that could be a winner for CX as european pax may want to fly full service instead of no frills! Imagine 6 plus hours on an A320.
|
will there be a Business class service left ANYWHERE in OZ??? if Vb can get a decent Business class they will make a killing when QF hands all its domestic services to JQ
|
I find it interesting that JB's definition of development is different to mine...
“The change is in line with our well established, successful strategy of developing the two brands of Qantas and Jetstar,” Mr Borghetti said." How is cutting back QF services going to develop the airline( Qantas) .....maybe you could call it a negative development and they are certainly successful at doing that... |
Mid Assist
Have done 6 hrs - thereabouts - on an a320, Vegas to Washhington Dulles. It is a long time in a 320 - on a red eye. At least the audio was good United chnl 9 :ok: |
Not to mention the time "wasted" for each pit stop along the way.
More like a city bus run than an airline that once3 proudly lourded its quality of service. Cathay has 5th Freedom rights out of Singapore but currently dont exploit that option. Apparenty they looking a 2nd daily to NZ via SIN. (no OneWorld carrier does it)... maybe they could do SIN-CNS or SIN-BNE too. Chilling the cabin down so punters buy blankets is surely not true? They'd be better to save gas by reducing the load the aircon and then the pax would by drinks. Far more profitable and you dont have to replace the blankets. |
More good news...:yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:    :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:
:yuk: |
If Jetstar gets the sales distribution and product awareness issues sorted out in the Japanese market then CNS-NGO and CNS-KIX will go to them as well.
Just like this announcement, AO guys and girls will be unfortunately again the last to know! |

Are these routes replacing QF in total? (As in you Fly Jetstar or another airline (not QF?)
the great irony is the new catchphrase of JQ... jetstar.. offering you Choice! what choice? its JQ or nothing No Business class, no more full sevice carrier. unless VB step up and fill the void required by the premium PAX. up until recently i have refused to fly economy, always business on domestic flights, but due to the lack of "choice" created by JQ, i am forced to fly cattle. |
well ultralights you mustnt be a pilot or you would always travel in cattle.
Lucky you have a better job than what all the future pilots have to look forward too. Unfortunately Hawke was right pilots are bus drivers and are now being treated accordingly. The other sad thing is Australia is such a good place to live , and as the visas go out on paper plates many foreign pilots will move in for the lfestyle, Dixon unfortunaltely cannot lose. |
Here comes the big push on the QF pilots' T&C's. The stick and carrot approach. Make them fearful for their jobs with one hand by putting Jetstar onto a few more routes and talking it up, and then hold out a salvation/lifeline in the form of a contract in the other hand.
And there will be a line of pilots to sign it!!!! |

Thats Dixons plan! once all domestic routes except some flight on Mel/Syd, have gone to JQ, then JQ will be re-branded QF, and dixon get his QF with the cost base of a LLC he has always wanted.....
. QF will end up as a botique airline and JQ will have a stranglehold on air travel in oz. Past loyalties of QF pax and employees will become an utter irrelevence. The only winners will be the QF shareholders. It's not healthy competition, it's just profit by stealth. It's the perfect ambush. CA |
More spin?
From the Qantas press release:
The Qantas Group today announced that Jetstar would commence daily operations on the Cairns-Darwin-Singapore route from 29 October, replacing the current five weekly Qantas B767 services. The daily A320 service will replace an existing Qantas service operating 5 times weekly, and will boost seat capacity on the route by almost 10 per cent. How can anyone call this either progress or development, unless you are a spin doctor? |
I remember the days when this QF service was a daily 747-SP! And I believe it was chockers most of the time too boot! I wonder of Malaysia Airlines will want to make a return to this route - they used to fly it twice weekly.
Cheers, NFR. |
the rumor about the blankets is crap.. i can assure you. half the time we are only loaded with 25-30 odd blankets and sell out completley - there is no need for us to change the temp in the cabin to 'increase sales'.
You will find with JQ crew.. we dont really give a damn about selling. thats one positive thing i think.. at least we wont be forcing saleable items down your throat the entire flight! We get minimal commission from such things , and most of the time we dont particuarly care if you buy food/drink/blankets or not. We have control of the temperature in the cabin and damned if we would suffer in the cold (or hot) just because management asks us too. (if mangagement are going to be on board though. we might make it slightly 'uncomfortable' for them haha) none of us particuarly love management, JQ or QF - which is why we do bare minimum. sorry for rant. had an awful day. haha |
Crewing looks like none of the above. This is an extract from the Jetstar propaganda release:
Jetstar is to commence daily services between Australia and Singapore when it takes over existing Qantas Group operations on the Singapore – Darwin – Cairns route from 29 October 2006.* The flights will be operated by Jetstar Asia for and on behalf of Jetstar under the Jetstar brand. Jetstar’s Australian operations will take responsibility for marketing the services and utilise existing traffic rights. Qantas will codeshare on all flights. The daily A320 service will replace an existing Qantas service operating 5 times weekly, and will boost seat capacity on the route by almost 10 per cent. Operated and crewed under Jetstar Asia’s Air Operator Certificate, Jetstar will offer improved access into northern Australia for inbound international visitors, with the opportunity to fly directly into Darwin or one stop to Cairns on a daily basis from Singapore. |
