Oh - bring on the next election is all i can say. If howard gets in again, im leaving the country! (this coming from someone who used to stupidly vote for him!)

Personally, Kim Beazley's tactics i find a bit shallow and immateur, and I grew up catching the school bus with Kevin Rudd's kids and spent my sundays waking up to his mobile van with loud speakers bignoting himself as it followed the icecream truck down every street - dont think highly of him either - but howard has gone tooooooo far.

AWAs are a disgrace and an insult! Having worked on one - they are designed to benefit only one party. AND ITS NOT THE EMPLOYEE.

I just hope the ALP can get it together! Things NEED to change.

WorkChoices - Work for an employer or work for the dole - its all the same!

(Sorry to crap on about political stuff, but even though I dont work for qantas, i'ts so nice to see that I am not the only one fed up with being treated as second class because I am an employee and not an employer).

It doesn't matter whether Howard gets kicked out next election - the ALP won't control the senate as well, therefore the new Workplace laws can't be overturned.
We are stuck with them, unless a miracle happens down the track and the ALP controls both houses of Parliament. I'll probably be 6 feet under by then!

funbags

Just to correct you so that you don't confuse others with your comment that the current industrial laws can't be overturned because the ALP won't control the Senate.
Whether the ALP would or would not control the senate remains to be seen..... all it takes is 1 senate loss at the next election from the coalition side of politics for the LIB/NAT coalition to lose control of the senate. The ALP does not need an absolute majority in its own right in the senate to implement laws or to reverse laws. All it needs is there to be a majority ..... with its own senators and other like minded partioes eg. the greens and democrats.
That is the first point.
The second point is thatif the ALP wins the next election, and even if the current senate majority of the coalition was to remain, there is NO WAY IN HELL THAT IN THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT AN ALP GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE ITS INDUSTRIAL AGENDA BLOCKED BY A HOSTILE SENATE.
That is because, the coalition senators would understand very clearly that the ALP had just won an election based on the industrial laws and it would be a very foolhardy liberal/ national group in the senate (if they still had a majority) that would be stupid enough to attempt to block a labor government's laws overturning the current industrial laws.
If they(LIB/NATT senators) were stupid enough to block amending laws, a NEW ALP GOVERNMENT WOULD SIMPLY USE THE DOUBLE DISSOLUTION PROVISIONS OF THE CONSTITUTION to threaten an election for the full senate anbd the house of representatives . At that point there would not be any further resistance from a hostile senate .
I hope that helps to clear matters up funbags.

Eden,
But remember the Liberals have won the past 4 elections with what they would consider a mandate to change certain things - immigration laws, Telstra sale, GST, workplace act etc and they had the ALP block everything in the Senate. Despite what you say oppposition parties generally block the opposing side's legislation despite what has happened in a previous election. It has only been the last year of the new Senate that they have passed most of their legislation (except GST via a deal with the Democrats at the time). I think that if the ALP wins the next election and tries to overturn the Workplace laws, the coalition senators will oppose it - even if the ALP has a so called mandate from the populous. Double dissolutions are often threatened but very rarely used - just ask the current Liberal government.
Otherwise I agree with the first part of your post.

Have a nice day

Funbags is right ,there is a difference between wishfull thinking about control of the senate with threats of double dissolutions and reality.

It’s great to say ok we will change the local mayor at the next election but we still have the neighbours pitbull Darth to deal with.

So how are we as a group going to deal with the dog which has a go at us every time we go to work?

the PC brigade

FYI Woomera & CartExchange -
I was only paying homage to Australia's great Socceroos coach & captain Johnny Warren. He wrote an autobiography entitled - "Sheilas, Wogs and Poofters."
'My Life in Soccer'
Its available in every good Aussie book shop.

There is no racist slur there -I'm sorry if I upset your delicate semsibilities.
(I'm told that in light of the Socceroos great success, Qantas are about to re issue this tome and send it to all 39,000 employees in lieu of a performance bonus . There is to be a moving forward by Darth & Singo. It will look great next to that other doorstop -The History of Qantas).

Now for all those on here that have knocked the out of the FAAA, what do you have to say now. Seems like a few of you have crawled into your holes.

Fryagain,

Let me see if I understand you correctly. The faaa have sent us a letter telling us to vote Labour at the next election and you believe that this is the faaa handling the company and looking after our interests???

It was not even a hollow victory, more like a cry in the dark and you think that the letter is a sign of the faaa looking after us?

It sounds to me that it is a nice little diversion to take our attention away from what they are supposed to be doing .

Darth is still on the loose causing mayhem and all the faaa has to say is we’ll fix him,we’ll vote for the opposition at the next election.I have some bad news for you Fryagain, the horse has bolted and it is a little late to shut the door.

The faaa ...sorry ...Eden99 tells not to get mad get even...Darth would have been rolling around the floor in stitches over that one.

I posted a simple question earlier asking what are we as a group are going to do about Darth and there has not been one reply especially from the faaa rep Eden99 who has just returned with the startling revelation that all will be rosy if we vote for Labour at the next election but in the meantime,we will just give into them so as not to upset Darth....

If we do nothing as the faaa seems to be doing then we deserve what we get

Its very easy to criticize from the sidelines.

No more of your purile questions...We want your answers!!!

I did not run for the position of union official but as a member of the union I am interested in what they are doing and it appears that there is not much.
Argus ,your previous posts would suggest you are more interested in ridicule than constructive debate.

I am simply asking what is the faaa doing about Darth and all they can come up with is to tell us to vote for the opposition.

I'll play the devils advocate here Argus,as you are a fountain of knowledge ,tell us what you think we should do?
